Fuck China.

The government, for allowing the dog/cat-eating festival.

Effing barbarians.

What can we do to promote cannibalism/eating pandas to wake the swines up?

In recent years, the event has found itself in the firing line of China's growing animal rights movement, turning Yulin into a battleground between those who want to protect man's best friend and others who would rather just eat him.

I have a biased and unbalanced opinion on the subject. I openly admit this. I simple find eating any dog and/or cat unacceptable. Here in the land of slanted eyes and slanted minds, I have come across people who will argue that there are certain types of dogs and cats for eating and certain types for pets. The concept of the rescue animal is slowly catching on but it sometimes feels like a losing battle as this bigotry continues to extend to the people. Yes, a social hierarchy is in place in asia that controls everything from who can be king, to whom one can be married, and even down to the kinds of dogs we can eat.

Proponents of dog-eating will bring up tradition and culture and their points are not without merit too. In the end it's not so much about forcing them to become Westernized, which they may resent but about becoming Modernized, which they have to accept to compete in the global socio-economic market place. Support these rescue animal activists!
I don't think I'm making any sense & I can't keep me eyes open....good night.

I also find the eating of our K9 and feline friends distasteful, but should I have grown up with a pet cow or chicken as childhood companions that fetched stick, slept at the foot of my bed and went out of their mind every time I returned home from school,I'd probably be disgusted at their slaughter as well.

Honestly? I don't really care. I had pet cats as a kid but the animals being eaten aren't my pets. I find it peculiar that a dog is considered "man's best friend" and above eating but pigs (which are smarter and just as capable of forming bonds with humans) are not given so much as a second thought. Protein is protein. If you can shoot it, skin it and serve it up and it's not people (because eating people gives you Kuru - laughing sickness - a variant of CJD), it's fair enough to eat.

And therein lies the rub.

It's about the bond.

Even dogs I don't know from a bar of soap, I would never consider it,

People who eat family pets/steal them to eat them are worse than savages, pure and simple.

There are tribes in the Amazon/Congo with zero education who would never eat dog.

Horrible people

Dogs, cats, pigs, cows, chickens, show me the big difference. We eat meat. After I did my 5 month motorcycle trip of Thailand years ago my one big fear was hitting a dog and going down. Thai's need to eat a lot of dog as there are way to many. Fastest growing disease in Thailand? Rabies from dogs.

You stay in a Thai village and at night the dogs start barking at one end of the village and it works its way to the other end, then back and doesn't stop all night. I haven't stayed in a small Cambo village so I don't know if its the same. There doesn't seem to be as many dogs here as in Thailand.

1. The bond: If you ignore this, what's wrong with killing pets? Big difference even between a cow one keeps as a pet and a run-of-the-Mill farm cow.
2. The intelligence: if you ignore this, why not eat monkeys/apes/people?
3. More people here eat dog than in Thailand, where it's kind of more popular in Isaan, iirc.
4. The non-stop barking is the same here, even in many parts of the city. Farmboys.
