free train ride in Cambodia

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

It is Pol Pot, and behind him is Ta Mok. Across from Ta Mok, on the left is Nuon Chea. I'm not sure who the guy in front of Nuon Chea is, probably Hu Nim. According to Nhem En, the photographer, it's a picture of the Khmer Rouse central committee on a visit to Kampong Som in 1976.

I'm not sure I'd want to get it until it's been running a few months, and most people in areas they pass through figure
out that the old railway line is not the best place to have a drunken nap or dry fish or park your vehicle anymore.
It shouldn't be long until they extend it to Battambang and maybe Pursat, as the track there is almost ready to roll again. Will take longer to fix the stretch between Pursat and PP so I wouldn't expect the trains to arrive in PP until closer to the end of the year.

I read somewhere (possibly the Train Cambodia FB group) that they are aiming to have the line to Phnom Penh running by late August

It's just an artifact from an old picture. You can see the same black dots to the left as well

Trains start tomorrow, running Poi Pet - Koub - Souphi - Tuek Thla - Sisophon

Trains from the Thai border at Poi Pet to Sisophon run daily, and are free of charge until 31 July. This service will be extended to Battambang by the end of May, and to Phnom Penh by late 2018.

Timetable:

0700 Poipet > 0815 Sisophon
1030 Poipet > 1145 Sisophon
1415 Poipet > 1530 Sisophon

0845 Sisophon > 1000 Poipet
1215 Sisophon > 1330 Poipet
1600 Sisophon > 1715 Poipet
