Foreigner abandons family over $2.50
Foreigner decides not to go on a family boat trip because he got charged $2.5 more than his Khmer family. In his words:
'Hello guys i just want to share my bad experience with Naga... Today my wife's family (Cambodian) and I had plan to watch the sunset with Naga boat, 8 persons in total. My sister in law booked the ticket this afternoon the price was 10 000 riels per adult and free for the kids. But when we finally arrived at the boat. The ticket seller saw my face and said in Khmer to my sister in law "Oh! There is a foreigner! the price is 20 000 riels for him". Unfortunately for him I live in Cambodia since few years and I speak a good Khmer. I decided to don't go and told my family to enjoy the trip. I know that most of the time the price is not the same for foreigner and Cambodian and I don't care about the price difference. The thing is how this guy said that. He was sure that I don't speak Khmer and was surprise to see that I answered him in Khmer. I saw on their sign that the price is $ 5 US/person. But as we booked by phone and he tought that we were all khmer the price was different. Totally disappoint...'

Yeah, strong and difficult decision. I don't know if it was correct or not, but been there often and one does grow tired of being treated like a deep pockets NGO that owes Khmer extra money just on the basis of their being Khmer and you're not. I wonder if Chinese pay extra.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

I don't feel it's wrong to charge tourists more for things like musea and Angkor Wat and stuff, same in Europe. But that's where it should stop. And I wouldn't abandon my family over a $2.5 price difference.

He clearly states that the issue is not the price difference, so the title is a tad misleading.
He's missed out on a family experience which may never occur again, but sometimes points of principle are important. Who knows what kind of crappy day he'd had leading up to this?
I feel the same way coming through immigration, and thank all available deities (except the ones which enforce celibacy and modesty in sexy babes) that I'm not allowed to travel with a loaded weapon, while breathing deeply and remembering the Ned result is often more important than the journey.
As for his language and grasp of English, he sounds foreign to me
But he acknowledges the inherent price difference. So a bit silly to do anything without assuming he's going to have to pay extra. Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.miffed barang wrote:and I don't care about the price difference

There was also a weird post from the boat owner saying it's bad form to complain on Facebook, the customer should have just bitched and moaned to the owner about the dual pricing and something could have been "resolved"

Racism sucks doesn't it? I mean, to be a foreigner that comes to an Asian country and gets treated differently from a native is absolutely disgusting.
Perhaps the OP should bring up this racism with his boss and ensure that he get's paid the same as a Khmer national for doing exactly the same job. That should equal things out a bit.

The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never allow the dumb ones to lead the pack.

I get the the guy is upset the way the boat ticket handler spoke and him getting upset and boycotting.
If the person spoke down that much the whole family should have boycotted the boat trip and done something else.
