For the CEO silent majority who have never posted - Hi !

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I understand lurkers. Some just like to read about what's going on. While it would be much nicer to have them participate too, lurkers are welcome, and active members should take it as a compLiment, as others want to read what they post! :thumb:

- When signed in, you can automatically go to the latest post in threads.

- You can Subscribe to Topics.

- You can brag to friends about how many forums you subscribe to.

- You can be a member of 440 vowing never to post here, but keep an account open just in case.

- And so much more.

LoL, agreed! It's almost like subscribing.

Usually I sign up for the information and the reading, but I feel I can't contribute much. That's my reason in other forums, although I'm not a lurker over here or on k440.
LoL, same here!
Soi Dog wrote:What I find interesting is that as I write this, there are 382 people viewing CEO (or have over the past 60 minutes). K440 has 250 right now. Admittedly it's quite rare we have as many viewers as them at any given time - but the gap seems to be closing lately. So this site seems to be finding a reading audience, unless we there are hundreds of bots skewing those numbers.
Yeah, I've noticed that lately too! :Yahoo!:

Seems K440 has been flooded with garbage lately. They have been getting more "posts," but it's undeniably mostly fluffy garbage.

It's also been noticeable that Scobie has been having a sort of "meltdown" online lately. Even Gavin has called him out on saying "come on, guys..." almost daily, LoL.

So yes, Khmer440 has a front page and gets more "posts," most of their posts over there have been a bore lately, mostly by a few of their resident trolls or flamers/shit starters.

It might be a trend with us starting to attract more people online, or they just might be in a slump. Either way, Scobie better get on it!

And either way, we're all doing something right here on CEO if a 11-month old site is able to hang with a 11-year old site!

And lurkers, if you're reading this, sign up and see what happens! Chances are you will be a valuable addition to CEO and will likely get a warm welcome. CEO members (admin/mods/myself included) aren't allowed to tell you to fuck off until you've made 20 posts! That should give you enough time to fit in and feel comfortable to tell us to fuck off too, LoL! Image

Interesting times, for sure....

And, not to give too much away (more to motivate myself, since by posting about it... I'm committed) but CEO has some pretty serious changes coming down the pipes soon... to be fully unveiled at the meetup party.

Oh, goody! More nudity? Official CEO uniforms? A new clause in the disclaimer wherein all new registered members must agree to be hunted as human prey?

All of that and MORE!

Also what's keeping me a bit busy to get to your analytics request right away but I'll try to pull some numbers for you later in the week. Normally I don't look at the data quite so 'micro'... more of a macro picture sort of guy with it. A week is really nothing... it can be a fluke of some article suddenly trending again, a slow week on another site, blah blah blah. The real testament to me is how often we've been seeing numbers like that happen over the course of the last few months. It's not just a once in a while fluke, but a fairly regular occurrence. However our overall traffic lines for the last few months have only shown small (but steady) increases. This tells me that more people who were just viewing as guest accounts previously have taken the step to sign up. To me that's a step closer to them becoming active and participating members... which is great.

Whilst Dizzie Gillespie style trumpet blowing is all well and good, most of the points are inaccurate. Claiming to be outdoing other sites is going back to the early days of CEO- let it go- like that blonde chick on Frozen.

Otherwise 1 would have to pint out; the lack of unique posters, the number of topics started by names in red, the god botherering threads, (my favourite) lack of posters who are in the kingdom etc.

Nobody's perfect, but for Allah's sake, concentrate on your own niche rather than (rather inaccurately) comparing yourself with your older online brother.

Thanks.

I've been a lurker on 440 for years, and decided to lurk around this forum as well when I discovered it.

Why? I just like to read and follow threads about Cambodia and the life of expats here when I have free time / battery. I currently live in a village without electricity, so I charge my phone from a generator in the evenings.

I can't remember why I registered, but I think it was to post pictures from the fire at the old market when I lived in Phnom Penh.

For me it's mostly about entertainment. To read your discussions and disagreements (I must admit it is very friendly on this forum. The other one used to be very entertaining before the change of owners), just like reading a book or watching a movie. I don't want to commit my self and my time in joining a discussion here, as I might as well post something and not be back for a few days, which is killing the discussion, really.

So I guess this is my second post, and I don't think the count will rise very quickly in the future either.

Anyway thanks for a great forum, and keep on posting. We lurkers really appreciate it!

You do seem downright obsessed with who is and is not presently in the kingdom. Is your present geographic location really the only thing you have to brag about?
