Tim Mathieson is actually Australian, so there is nothing to legally stop him and Julia Gillard residing together. Maybe one day they'll bring in stricter religious laws to stop such reprehensible behavior, but there's nothing that can be done for now.

I find it so unfair of immigration laws around the world on marriage like this. Where are the countries values on marriage, compassion and religion. Again it's all about the cash.

Marriage itself is about money...marriage exists mainly to give access to legitimate offspring to the joint estate.

You can live together, have kids, be in love..all without marriage.

Bit of a scam, imo, oh, but our imaginary friend in the sky decreed it...

That is a good short sum-up of the situation. But also realize these are mixed marriages in religion, mostly Buddhist and Christian.

The reasoning behind the rules or visa conditions and the cost are to try to weed out those who try the "Fiance" way into Australia. Seen so many people get married in/out of Australia then bring wifey in. Two years on temporary visa then an interview with both to determine if they are still a couple or not (can include a check of "family" home to see if cohabiting in same room.
Man says "All ok. we love each other" Woman say "I love him long time"
Permanent visa approved.
Two weeks later Man goes to Immigration and says " Cancel her visa . She just left me and is going to take half my house and superannuation etc" "She go to police and take out an AVO ( Apprehended Violence Order) they kick me out of my house.
Immigration say. "sorry cannot do that. Two weeks ago you say everything ok for her to get Permanent visa"
woman then can buy her original husband and children tickets to go to Australia and live in her house.

Dunno man..in small town Australia where i have lived for 20+ yrs there were approx 10 Asian/Aussie married couples when i arrived...funny thing they are all still together?
