Yea very well said buddy. The thing is, with bars and deuchy clubs closed, getting drunk and acting like a dumb ass is less likley for me, thus increasing my chances of remaining safe.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 12:03 am Lots of out of work Khmer out there. As things get worse in the Kingdom of Wonder, a high number might turn to crime, especially in the cities where there is a greater degree of anonymity and social isolation.
Foreigners have always been perceived as richer (compared to locals) and less protected (compared to the Okhna) and make ideal targets.
Be careful out there.
I'm all seriousness, I'm going to the gym, I'm doing high cardio activities and I'm eating the healthiest food I have in my entire life.
Those of you who have come to notice the appearance of my posts will see me talking about letting my hair down and having fun here...... But the slightly more boring reality of things are..... That I've actually come to improve myself. AND IT'S ACTUALLY FUCKING WORKING?!?
I'm up early, cooking healthy food, doing healthy things. It's keeping me in good shape and by the time the sun falls and criminal activities begin, I'm at home studying and getting ready for an early night.
Become structured in times like these my friends, remain healthy, remain productive, remain safe and you shal remain Happy..... Right???

That's probably the nostalgia of your critical thinking.there's a level of nostalgia in speaking to people AFTER I've made the efforts to move to this box of frogs loony land!
I hope it grows back.
Anal virginity and forum reputation, not too sure.
Good luck though.
Re: FANTASTIC time to emigrate!!!!
You seem to have a good sense of humour, you'll be fine. I think Cambodia will get through this quickly, the chips will fall where they fall and will be well placed for a recovery. Hang in there...HappyChappy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 3:28 pmYyyyyea having more than one back up plan was probably a good idea..... *cough*Doc67 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 11:39 pmI seem to remember you posting for advice some time ago and getting the benefit of some very sage advice, in summary have a plan b and c and so on.HappyChappy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 9:05 pm Flipping heck!!!
3yrs of planning to come at one of the LESS ideal times to start a new life in a foreign country. FRANKLY, rent is cheap, as is food. So I can actually survive fairly cheaply for a few months and HOPE this will blow over soon???
My dreams of working as a "fun guy" in a hostel have been crushed, my plan B for being a teacher on hold until the schools stabilise....... And my tan....... Tbf I've got a decent tan so it's not all bad.
When will this end people??? 1 month, 3 months, longer????
You wanted an adventure right? Well, you got one! If you don't have a sense of humour you should not have come to Cambodia.
Look on the bright side, when this is all over and the seasoned old expats return, you will have bragging rights to say you were there and rode out the storm. You might not have any money, possessions, body fat or rectal virginity left, but you will have bragging rights.
Good luck!
With regards to having a plan c, d etc....... That ship sailed long, long, ago... along with my anal virginity actually, so that's one less thing to fret about.
Bragging rights I hold in very low value (along with my anal virginity clearly), but my money and possessions, I wanna keep those.
I'm going to look down the avenues of teaching online so I have money coming in, I will be addressing the glib individual moaning about shitty teachers shortly, but in case anyone else thinks that retaining a sense of humor and having plans to actually have SOME fun out here demonishes your ability to be a good teacher...... I argue 'tis not the case good people of CEO.
Thanks for all the positive / informative replies people, try stay happy!!
p.s. " have SOME fun out here demonishes your ability to be a good teacher..." Using words like "demonishes" might cause you a few problems in the teaching English world!

They will close the gyms sooner or later. Hotbeds of infection transmissions. The Khmers will figure that out sooner or later. Get yourself a pair of dumbbells for home and get ready for doing weird new exercises with the same weight.HappyChappy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 3:46 pmYea very well said buddy. You're right though, structure your days with healthy productive activities and the day passes. I have a 13 week plan and if ends sooner I'll consider it a bonus.
Re: FANTASTIC time to emigrate!!!!
On The Guardian I came across this video of a man with corona showing what it is like:
Also read a report from someone working in a hospital ICU to explain what the course is if patients are infected and not recovering.
1. You arrive in the hospital with breathing difficulties
2. Staff will put you on a ventilator (if one is available)
3. The mask will start to fit less well as your condition gets worse
4. At some moment it will be necessary to insert tubing through nose or throat to help you with breathing
5. As the body will fight these foreign objects, medication is needed to prevent that
6. While breathing gets increasingly difficult, to ease the situation you hopefully will get prescribed morphine
7. The hospital increases the morphine doses while you slowly suffocate, it is not a nice way to die

Many of us are highlighting the need to retain a sense of humour in these troubling times (better to laugh than to cry), but a gentle reminder for the severity of the situation is important.
Look I'm taking the steps needed to stay healthy, best not to stress. I hope everyone else is doing the same, bless this forum because sharing information in times like this is actually VERY comforting.

1. You arrive in the hospital with breathing difficulties
2. Staff will put you on (high flow) oxygen, not a ventilator. Morphine might be given to suppress symptoms, but if your get morphine it's a really bad sign.
3. The oxygen through the mask might not be enough as your condition gets worse, risk goes up with age.
4. At some moment it might be necessary to put you on a ventilator. They will only do so if you have a reasonable chance of surviving this. You will be sedated, not with morphine.
5. Being ventilated (for a long time) stresses the body a lot. You lose 2-3% of muscle mass per day. Some people need the ventilator for a long time. They will need a lot of therapy afterwards to recover from this stress to the body.
6. Morphine is given to people on (high flow) oxygen still being conscious. It reduces the symptoms of lacking oxygen and building up CO2 in the body.
Re: FANTASTIC time to emigrate!!!!
Thanks for fixing Kammekor, I am not a qualified medic as you apparently are. I just quoted from memory, the guy described an ocurring situation a in many more words than I did. He used all those caveats like 'might' and 'circumstances' and 'chances of survival' in his post as you do, all while seemingly using the correct medical terminology and lingo. I also left out that in countries where ventilators are scarce in relation to patients, older people with a low chance of survival might not even get on one in regards with their survival rate and the strain on the body.
