This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. We can't all be perfect mate.

North born and bred. We were hoping that earthquake in Christchurch a few years ago would push the south back to Australia where it belongs!!!

If you need to do a cash-run FC, I suggest you go to NZ or Australia. If you don't have anyone to crash with in Kiwiland then it might be a bit risky, but if you do have some family, go for it. You'll find yourself much more focused in the west and it'll be easy to set financial goals and reach them. As others have said, Cambodia isn't really a place to make big bucks as an employee unless you bring a very specific set of locally marketable skills to the table. And rural Cambodia certainly isn't a place to make money in your situation...I'm actually also considering a work stint abroad in the coming months. If only for a few months to a year or so to replenish my coffers. I know it would be hard, but it might help solidify me financially, so I'll see when the time comes.
Thanks, I hear you. But like I said, I will stick here for now and see how things go. Arggg fuck it, I will tell you (guys) straight up, my daughter already got an automatic New Zealand citizenship. My wife keep on telling me to leave her here and take the baby but I can not get myself to do it....I keep on telling her that we are going to sail this journey together, let us sail together :)
Like your style Chick. I would say try and stay together if you can.
Might be easier to get your wife that visa if you had a good job in NZ for a few months first though? Not sure how the immigration thing works over there.

In term of being an employee, I think the average monthly salary for skilled foreign workers are probably around $1000USD per month, even that is hard find! To those who make over 20k annually, what's your secret? :D Help a brotha out! At the rate I am making now will probably take me over 4 years to have that amount and that if I dont spend a single cent.

You will never make decent money living in the provinces, quite simple.

If you want to get decent money you need to move to PP.

Believe it or not, you actually have skills that would be very marketable. I am sure you could earn around $1,000pm. I know khmers earning way more than that. A hell of a lot depends on how you present yourself (attire and especially manner) and the sort of jobs you are targeting.

I would even give you a job paying initially (probably later would increase) $300pm plus accommodation and food and cheap beer for you and the family but in SHV.
Fiancee is making good money and beenfits ( car/iPhone/Laptops) all because she speaks great English ( not fluent) and works hard and stays calm. I guess she is the head administrator of her company in a way. Also acts as a translator for the owner when dealing with the Korean civil engineers.

So yeah, FC, in PP you could do well if you are not a total F*up. My girl has a degree in IT * shrug* Like many people, doing something totally outside her degree.
I'll give ya 500 Riel for it...

NZ Citizens by Descent have all the rights of New Zealand citizenship, except that they cannot pass on their citizenship to any children born to them (or adopted) overseas.

Hey FC, was your daughter born in NZ or abroad? If she was born abroad then she isn't automatically entitled to NZ citizenship, she may be entitled to Citizenship by descent, which you need to apply for. If you haven't applied for this yet, I would suggest you get it done sooner than later, let me know if you require any info or assistance on the application process because its a pain in the ass.

I will tell you my story on the day of the Christchurch earthquake; it was on the day my arrival flying Emirates from Savanpoum (sp) airport. I was completely broke so couldnt afford a backpacker place, mates were in Nelson and Dunedin. I tried to sleep on the bench at the Cathedral Square, but I could not bare it...it was rainy, windy and cold! So I walked over 100 KM to the next town before Omaru...I hitchhiked and finally got picked up at Timaru. A mate came down and give me 100 bucks at CountDown supermarket, after I woke up the next day; the bench where I tried to sleep i.e. around the Cathedral areas were completely destroyed. Did I cheat death? I don't know! Maybe I am still alive for a reason.

I have not apply for it yet, but talking with NZ immigration one on one my daughter can either have her name under my passport or have her own. Thanks for the reminder, my passport expired since April.
