Expat wife not prepared for sexpat elements.

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Expat wife not prepared for sexpat elements.

Mark & Kerry

Life as an Expat wife in South East Asia

7 Sept 2019

In 2013 we made the decision to move to Thailand and teach English.... We were prepared for a culture shock as that is what travelling is about, seeing the way others live and go about their daily lives. What I was not prepared for was the Sexpat elements.

When we were teaching it was nothing to have students, young girls and young boys, offering sexual favours for better grades. More so Mark was the recipient of the offers than me, and as a father of two daughters it was quite unnerving. As a wife it was also uncomfortable to watch young girls fawning over your husband of 20 odd years like he was a demi god.

We often would go out at night with a couple of male expat friends who honestly just wanted to have a peaceful drink without all the teasing and flirting games. Before we would leave to go out, they would always give me their money to hold for the night so if they were asked for money they could legitimately say they had none. This always amused me. Big tough men going out, but mum had to hold the money.

We have met many Expat ladies who arrive in South East Asia with their hubbies to start their dream life of retirement or change of life style. Unfortunately for some their hubbies are number 100 and before they know it he has headed off into the wild blue yonder with a new 20ish love of his life.

As far as trying to date and move on for them in a South East Asia country it is by no means an easy feat. Weeding out the sexpats from the rejected bitter men and the really really strange ones is a job on its own. We have had single Expat ladies go on dates only to be told as soon as they arrive “oh by the way so you don’t get the wrong idea, I only sleep with Ladyboys”.

How can she be astute in some observations, but be so utterly clueless in others....oh ya, never mind.

For a while I thought you were using Google Translate to write the posts, and I’d respect that, but what kind of word is “bitchtitts”? Where did you study to say “menopause” instead of “period”?
