Expat Demographics

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

to be honest sir it is hard to pinpoint exactly. Embassies do not keep a track on their own people, and with the visa's of people coming/leaving/staying short time/overstaying there is no official data - by expats who are you referring? All non Khmers or just westerners?

thousands of Chinese a lot of Korean and Japanese live here too. however I think a rough estimate was around 80.000 (excluding the above non western ones) . Id guess French probably account for the highest percentage, followed by Australians, Americans, Brits and other Europeans. be a stab in the dark to guess the exact numbers.

of that maybe 50.000 in PP

Expat Insider 2017 Demographics
For the fourth year in a row, Expat Insider — one of the largest expat surveys worldwide — offers an in-depth analysis of everyday expat life in more than 60 countries across the globe.

We reached out to members of our global community and other expats worldwide, asking them to share their reasons for moving and evaluate their life abroad. More than 12,500 respondents representing 166 nationalities and living in 188 countries or territories took part and had their say on moving, living and working abroad.

The following infographic sums up the survey participants’ demographics, from age and gender to length of stay and level of education, as well as their primary reason for the move abroad and much more! https://www.internations.org/expat-insi ... hics-39231

Chinese and Vietnamese have always held the lead there. With Chinese it's hard to tell because they've been here for a thousand years and have been mixing a lot. Vietnamese are more recent and don't merge in so well. There's a sizable Korean community here, and there have always been Indians, Filipinos and Malays. As for western foreigners, there are a lot of French but it's hard to gauge as they aren't the most visible bunch. There are a whole lot of Americans here, Cambodia seems to be popular with ex-servicemen. There are plenty of Australians and Brits too. The rest is made up of people from anywhere you can imagine. Finns, Swedes, Germans, Canadians, Nigerians, Ghanaians, Iranians, Russians, etc.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Wasn't it 160 000, with 60 000 work permits granted?

yeah your correct...
More than 100,000 foreigners of about 160,000 working in Cambodia did not have work permits in 2017, according to figures announced during a meeting between the interior and labour ministries yesterday.

Seng Sakada, director general of the Labour Ministry’s general department of labour, said in the meeting that 160,077 foreigners from 93 countries were working in the Kingdom, adding 100,346 of the workers were Chinese nationals.
100k of the 160k are Chinese apparently
