English Teacher with HIV & 3 Young Children in Cambodia Needs Help to Start Work Again

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Not on GoFundMe, but on GoGetFunding:

I met a girl and fell in love in 2009. After 6 months she fell pregnant and I was overjoyed. During the pregnancy I was informed that my girl had HIV and I should be tested. I was diagnosed HIV positive 3 months later. I chose to stay with my girl because we were having my first child and that child had done no wrong.

When the child was born, he was not mine. He was very dark skinned and she admitted that she had basically done this to keep me around. I was crushed but again in my heart I knew this little child did not deserve to be abandoned. I stayed and vowed to be his father in every way I could.

These last years have been very hard mentally and physically and I can no longer work in 'proper'schools as I have such bad skin complaints and the staff and students don't like the way it looks.

I found huge solace in the fact that I can teach online where my HIV doesn't matter...

Someone once told me (without reference) that foreigners with HIV can be legally deported in the KoW... T/F, anyone know?

Don't know anything for sure, but unless you post your HIV status on social media for all to see (as above), your personal health records are private and not available to anyone else.
So, how would they (the authorities) know that you have HIV unless you post it on FB, and why would you ? That's a really desperate way to earn a few bucks. IMO.

I think the GoGetFunding account may have something to do with that.

While he was living with his girlfriend she got pregnant to another man, and lied to him about it. He stayed with her.

Do you think he has a smart attitude in his life?

I just felt incredibly sorry for the guy. sometimes circumstances dont leave many options open and this may well be one of them.

There is no specific law about it but in practice if you test positively for HIV you will be considered a persona non grata and are likely to be kicked out in no time. Guy comes across like a fucked up junkie, maybe I'm wrong but I don't have time for this shit.

Dunno, not gonna make any comments about how people "come across" in general. Not gonna judge him, but not going to sub him either. Whatever the case, proclaiming your HIV status like that in a region that discriminates pitilessly against the disease doesn't seem like the wisest course... If I had to make a comment, he seems genuine enough to me, certainly not necessarily a "fucked up junkie", possibly just fallen through the cracks desperate. Whatever, hope he is genuine and things work out for him if so.

I feel sorry for the guy but It seems as if he has lived long enough in Cambodia to build a relationship he has been there long enough to know that having unprotected sex with a girl prior having her tested for HIV is like playing Russian roulette.
