English Teacher GARY SMITH seems to be Homeless now with a Broken Leg in Phnom Penh
There's been a report of as homeless Gary Smith from the UK with a broken leg begging on the streets of Phnom Penh near the airport.
Based on his social media, he broke his leg in December and has been unable to get home or see a doctor. He reached out to the UK embassy, but they say they are not able to visit him.
He might need serious help.
From social media:
"Does anyone know a Gary Smith, from the UK? Saw him yesterday and tried to see what help he needs. Apparently he's been in Cambodia working as a teacher for 5 years. Looks like he's fallen on hard times real quick. Deserved, or not, I'm in no position to speculate. Don't know the details except that he's living on the street at the airport. Broke his leg and never had it treated, so he's a cripple right now, too. Please get in touch if you have any information about this guy."

Stories like this make me wonder, 5 years teaching and in that time made not one friend that could/would help in times of need>>

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Hope he gets some help ... if not from his embassy, maybe from one of his fellow Brits.
This time comes to mind.

Would appear to have been offered loads of help by many different people over 4 or 5 months including but not limited to accommodation, food and a flight out of here which he missed

Is at Green Apartment.
So let's let everyone know my position here.
READ.... Yes READ.
Now he says stop going off topic and all about him..........
Yes, I have all the screenshots of our nice lovely helping chat if all would like to read them.
Now let me hear him or type again.....' I don't understand: and phone down and he is busy.
Doing what exactly.
Yes this is serious.... Mm
Yes, I can afford a private hospital here.
Yes I can live alone and see nobody for days on end.
Now where would I want to be?
Back in Cambodia Ever Again NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hear that?
Now wake up.
I will sit here and my mother will sit in the UK until you come to the door asking for me to pay my rent on the 14th or 16th of March and I will pay it and BTW. One other thing................
Can you get me the **** out of here?
Come see how I live in this room.
Yes the room rented by you and your family.
Are you happy?
Are you busy?
Do you want to get the police at my rented room door again?
Do you want me to contact The British Embassy.. MmI had already... To slow dead head.
Now you just give me the numbers and nothing else you could do, could you Ben.
Is your Telegram messenger working today?
I will smile when I see Ben and say WTF is going on. I want to go home.
When I do.... I will write a very, very blinding light review of this property for you.
I will also contact my local MP on the Wirral Globe and let her send an email to The British Embassy in London and the top.
This is while I am waiting for my broken shin to get an appointment at the hospital with the already done x-rays in my hand done by a doctor and his letter of diagnosis of the forementioned x-ray.
It will not be one of you with your finger up your arse.... Oh no, I will call a doctor for you here.
Now.......
Things can change.... My leg and my decision.
Now someone is waiting to help me get to the airport with a broken shin I have had since December the 13 th and no painkillers and the bone could come through the skin of I put my foot down and game over.... Hospital that will cost me money..... OK.
So this is urgent to be looked at so a doctor says to me after an x-ray I do have and shown other people....
Now on 2 occasions.... Face to face this person said they would help me and my 88 year old mother who lives alone like me here in the apartment.. (not mine.) who has had 2 strokes and he calls the shots when I call him up and then I cannot contact him.....
So I am to book a flight.... OK.
So will have a taxi and all at the airport sorted out with my suitcase and standing on crutches. ( not the ones I got but other ones that he could not get or even spend the time trying.)
So by a miracle I get them with help from a random new friend.
Right....
Why would I want to come back here to this apartment?
So after all the negotiations before of me staying and paying rent while I was not here for maybe 6 or maybe 8 months after an operation and living with no cost at all come back after a wonderful result ( hopefully of a successful operation) to sit here with no work again like the past 3 years and look out of the window everyday and see nobody.
What about the suitcase belongings at my mums?
So then why don't I just take everything with me and not come back and save money and have all my things and not a quarter I will in a suitcase on a plane.
Why not use a shipping company to do it.
Great idea.
He wants me out.....and adiment I do so.
So he is helping me and himself.
Ok, I find a shipping company to come here today and give me a quote on a shipping consignment of my belongings and then book a ticket.
So he is waiting for me to tell him when I have booked my plane ticket.......he does not know I have changed my mind and not coming back so don't need to pay rent.
Why pay rent?
I want this shipping company on this road right here....simple.
Now after 3 days try calling him......
So he is waiting on me to tell him my flight details..... We'll I have not spoken to him.
So stale mate.
I don't see anyone all day.
Yes not a soul.
Where is he?
Now this is a shipping company I managed to contact and hopefully the agent will see what needs shipping and then I can book a flight when my belongings go on the back of a truck to be transported.
Here is the freight containers shipping office.
He helped....still helps..... Seriously.
What am I?
A prisoner?
Having to order food online to be delivered.
Cash only.
Go the Atm...... How?
Do this and do that he tells me and cannot tell him....is it his shin bone nearly poking out of his leg to make these choices for me and my mother and cannot come to my door and ask when this flight he is waiting for and I will tell him what...... OK, I have booked it and you can now book a taxi and friend at the airport wave me off saying bye bye.
Then come back for what??????
Ben ( landladys son and the rest of them here)

Based on his situation and condition, I don't think he has much time before everything goes even further south for him. Maybe a week?
Is it just me or does he look like he could be Jim Carrey and Matt Dillon's lovechild?

Would there be any reason he can't get medical attention for his leg? Money doesn't seem to be his problem, he's obviously able to hobble around if he's looking for an apartment. There's a lot more to this story I suspect.
