English Teacher Gary Beattie from the UK with HORRIFIC Leg Infection and Expired Visa Says British Embassy Won't Help

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. It's pathetic how we have all these so-called language teachers who constantly moan about being broke when in reality they don't even understand basic English usage and are probably too goofed-off on smack to even care.

I believe the last email is not his, but an NGO which was trying to help him out.

So, could he have kicked the bucket? People never get found in Cambodia until they've been dead for at least a few days, and then the media gives us the morbid details about how some staff member goes on to investigate a foul odor, etc. Image
Gary gives off that same foul odor when still in the land of the living so detection by smell wouldn't be possible.

Having read the stuff Hammockman so thoughtfully linked to, I feel a total fool.

Gary has obviously been conning people for years but I - luckily enough - was
not among their number.

The question remains though; is the currrent issue a real issue? Does Gary deserve to die/be crippled for being an asshole in the past?

The Grinch's question is 100% valid - BUT we don't know the facts.

Has anyone reading this thread any idea of what the true facts are as of now?

Where is Gary? In Poipet or where?

Gary's story kind of reminds me of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf."

He needs money for this and that, and people give. They later realize he's a scammer, and are upset. He says he is dying from a terminal disease, and people give again. Later furious when they find it it was just another scam.

Now, when he might really be truly desperate and down on his luck, needing a few grand to save his life, he's burned all his bridges and nobody will help.

Or it could be another elaborate scam, who knows...

It seems he could be doing a lot worse, according to his recent activity on Facebook:

I'd be surprised if he wasn't aware of this topic about him, and he's obviously more than welcome to come set the record straight if he wanted to, but we haven't seen that happen.

I feel that Gary Beattie has pissed in our faces!

We need help!

We ae desperate!

We desperately need another watering can for the downstairs plants to supplement the one we use for our plants on the roof!

One of our toilet seats (cheap Thai plastic, as supplied by the builder on a build-to-a-budget three years ago) is slightly cracked
and we can be certain that the crack will spread and eventually pinch somebody's bum.

The two stair handrails need to be repainted!

Can an Embassy help?

Can someone help me to set up an online appeal?
