US Embassy warning

Post by daraly »

Just got this a few minutes ago.

U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Possible Demonstrations in Phnom Penh

September 5, 2016

The United States Embassy in Phnom Penh alerts U.S. citizens residing in or traveling to Cambodia of the possibility of political demonstrations in Phnom Penh on Monday, September 5. The Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) has announced planned demonstrations at or around CNRP Headquarters, located at 576 National Road 2, as well as at or around the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, located on Samdech Monireth Blvd. Additional demonstrations may occur throughout Phnom Penh through the week of September 5, including in the areas surrounding CNRP‎ headquarters and the Phnom Penh Municipal Court.

U.S. citizens are reminded of the Embassy’s existing guidance that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and have the potential to escalate into violence without warning. The U.S. Embassy recommends you avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests or demonstrations and immediately leave any area where there are large gatherings. You should remain alert of local security developments by monitoring local news reports, exercising vigilance regarding your preparedness and personal security, remaining aware of your surroundings, and planning your activities accordingly. Please follow the guidance below to receive the most updated security information from the U.S. Embassy.

It's nice when the US Embassy has more info about CNRP demos than the local news outlets ... :o

Anyone heard of demos planned for this week ? Oh yeah, Kem Sokha trial starts Sept 9 ... keep an eye open for demonstrations then.

I saw something on Twitter from Sokhas daughter, saying city hall had rejected their submission for this demonstration but they were going to do it anyway.

It could get interesting unless they give last minute permission for this to go ahead.
