Drugged-up Thieves with Samurai Swords in Kampong Cham (VID)

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Capital punishment won't solve any problems until your judiciary is independent, and even then it won't solve any problems because people who get drugged up and cut other people with swords aren't thinking rationally. The assumption is that criminals will think, "If I face death, I won't do this" but this has been repeatedly demonstrated as false in the US (one of the few developed countries remaining with capital punishment). People who violently attack others will not be deterred by the sentence; something has gone wrong in their lives (emotional issues, gangs, drugs, etc.) and they're past the point of thinking, "Gee, if I do A, then B will happen."

Plus, even in countries with capital punishment, nobody gets the death penalty for assault with a violent weapon or robbery. In the US, I'm pretty sure only treason and murder carry the death penalty.

Personally, I think it is really good that Cambodia has no death penalty. These two scum deserve prison, but not death.

Keep in mind that even in the USA where they do have criminal science and so on and where they actually do try to solve the crime, they still execute innocent people from time to time.
Now take Cambodia for example. If police can't find the criminal, they find a scapegoat. If there was capital punishment here, people would just pay a couple grand to a policeman so that
he'll pin the guy for a crime that he never committed. And then what? He gets killed because some twat didn't like him and had enough money to bribe the police. I don't like the sound of that.
