Driving car into Cambodia - keep it - selling it there info

Post by jonnyboy »

I have a car in Thailand with the Thai blue book ownership in my Thai girlfriends name and I want to drive it to Laos and then onto Cambodia onto Sihanoukville where we plan to stay for a while and later sell it there. We dont plan on ever returning to Thailand and would like to keep the car and use it there for many months or years until we are ready to sell it and fly to somewhere else. We lived in Sihanoukville 2 months and loved it.

I have read everything I could find about border crossings and such and laws and car should only be out of Thailand not for more than a month and so on but a lot of it it confusing and people say different things.

My questions are

1. Can someone tell me the best border crossings to do this trip finto Laos onto Cambodia from Thailand and what is needed or what I might run into?
2. Can someone tell me how long the car can stay there and if it stays longer what would happen or what can be done good or bad?
3. Would it be possible to get Cambodian papers for the car [remember its right hand drive]
4. Can I sell it or will someone buy a car in cambodia with Thai papers?
