I had my drink spiked in Angeles City in the 90's and woke up the next morning in a dirty hotel room with an underage girl in a towel with cops banging on the door. It was a set up all the way I never touched her. I only had 2000 pesos in my wallet and they held me at the station for another night until Monday morning when I went to my bank and had to withdraw 500,000 or they would have charged me with underage sex.

The wildest thing in AC in the 90's was all the eurotrash that rolled in to replace the yanks after Pinatubo trashed it. It wasn't that bad. Cambodia in the 90's was way more dicey.

I lived in Angeles from 1995-2002, while working as a travel writer for a publishing company that was based there. Rather surprisingly, I survived, but I knew many who didn't. Murder rates of foreigners averaged more than 2 a month and peaked at 3 not long after I left. There was an estimated expat population of 20,000, of whom about 3 were women.
As a long term stayer and one of the few foreigners in town with a legitimate job, I gradually got to know the inner workings of the scene there and it was certainly chilling. Heavy duty drug smuggling, an organised pedophile ring, famous crime figures, some of whom featured in Australia's Underbelly TV series, contract Killers, former crooked cops. Mohamed Atta, the leader of the World Trade Centre attacks, lived there for 6 months while taking flying lessons. In the end, I was both happy and lucky to walk out in one piece from the evil shithole and have never thought of returning.
I didn't get my drink spiked once in the whole time I lived there, though I survived a number of more dangerous situations. The only time it happened to me was 2004, on my first visit to Phnom Penh, when I was spiked by 2 horrifically ugly freelancers while drinking at the Walkabout for the first time. Luckily, there were no serious consequences.
