downtown

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

As safe as anywhere in this godforsaken hellhole!
IMO, its not really where you (I) want to live. I'm here because I love the beach and downtown is a little to far to walk to the beach for me. Others are here for the nightlife (whatever that may entail) and except for maybe 3 bars, downtown is dead after about 9pm. If nightlife is what you want, you are better either closer to Occheuteal, or on Victory Hill.

I live across the street from the beach (not the downtown beach) and wouldn't have it any other way. It took me two years of living here to wake up and move close to the beach and away from downtown. Yes, night time downtown is dead. If I need a bar, I drive there. I see no reason to live close to a bar or an area that is loud. I get no cambo weddings or funerals. If I want "action" I drive to the downtown beach, circle area or victory hill, not the other way around.

BTW/ My neighbors have rebuilt Chivas (shack), and it was open for a few days during the holidays. Wow! What a class act. Nothing like it at the main beach. Makes the shacks lining the beach look like the dumps they are. Suppose to have a grand opening Nov. 1

Across the street from Hawaii beach. Almost all Cambodian, but one Russian restaurant (White Rabbit.) Other than the weekends when the people come down from PP or holidays, its a very quiet beach, I recommend the part of the beach all the way to the left as you enter.(southern end) Its got some big rocks, but that's part of it being really nice. The family that run the food/booze shack there won't rip you off either.

Very unusual there is a house next to me (around $500.) that's for rent. They usually don't come open or last long. Its just been remodeled, two bedroom, yard, trees, TV, cable, gazebo covered parking. Very quiet. Very large trees all around.

If your interested in the house I wouldn't wait to long as they go in a day or two as they never come open and are very unique for Cambodia. The owners name is Mr. Ho and he lives at the end of the street to the right. I tried to post a picture, but could not.
