Dover teenager Jasmine Line hopes to raise cash for volunteering trip to Cambodia

Dover teenager Jasmine Line hopes to raise cash for volunteering trip to Cambodia

A Dover teenager is raising money to fund the trip of a lifetime and help communities in Cambodia.

Jasmine Line, 14, hopes to travel to Cambodia in the summer of 2017 and needs to raise £3,710 for the trip.

She is among seven pupils at Dover Christ Church Academy who will volunteer with Camps International.

The aim is to take part in various projects including planting trees that need to be replaced due to deforestation, and helping to build schools.

Jasmine, who lives with her dad John Line in Peverell Road, plans to host a boot fair, do a sponsored car wash, a sponsored walk and hopefully a 24-hour exercise bike ride.

Mr Line said: “This trip would help Jasmine get the confidence that is aching to come out. She wants to help others.”

He explained that she did not have the easiest childhood and as a single dad, he is now keen to make sure her future is bright.

Part of the project will be building accommodation for teachers who have to sleep in the classrooms because they have nowhere to live.

He said: “Jasmine feels very strongly about this. While she has a good education she wishes to be able to give that to others as she feels everyone is equal and deserves the same in life.”

This will be the first big trip away from her family and Jasmine said she is looking forward to it and the fact that she can help others will make it worth it.

"Give me money for a holiday"

So how much can a 14 year old girl build? Voluntourism is such a joke.

Sounds like she's going to plant trees and rebuild forests.

Is it normal to put a minor's full name and street address in an article? Genuine question. I'd have thought there'd be some kind of child protection policy, even at the local rag that the published the original article.

Probably ok if the father has given his permission. He obviously thinks this stunt is a good idea - for his daughter anyway:

Never mind whether she would actually be of any use.

Not only a joke but an insult to locals. "lets send some ignorant white kids over to teach the natives how to build" Image

Edit actually a good opening for Jamie he could run a builders training course for volunteers and charge $1000 for a cert. :thumb:[/quote]
