Does that 2000 riel add up?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Okay that is fair. But  if the price is written in Cambodian and they ask 2000 riel more is that overcharging ,because that happens all the time.
Yeh the khmers love to pull small time scams, tricks and rip offs that barangs dont seem to care /realise / give the time of day to even give a f&#k.
Good example is  when the motodop has
"no change .....".
I doubt any khmer customer will buy that crap for 1 second.
It's stupid to take low rent transport like a dup without proper change in your pocket or a plan for getting change at your destination. Rank amateur mistake.

^^ Or better still, just give the driver your $20 and tell him to change it and bring your change back.

Or even better still, have the number of a couple of motodops and tukkies that you trust, in your phone and only use them. I agree with Bingham and LTO here. Getting ripped off is a rank amateur mistake, whinging about it just shows what a rank amateur you are.

What a whinging barang bin scab. Sounds even poorer than the average teacher, my mate has a Celta and makes $50 an hour in Sydney. Bin scab should be here.

Look at it as a kind of social tax and immagine you contribute a small little bit to the local community with your unwanted tip. Its worth many times more to those overcharging you in most cases (I would maybe exclude barang run businesses). Turn the negative experience into a positive feeling. It does add up at the end but it doesn't make Cambodia an unaffordable country to live or travel.
work is for people who cant find truffles

If you get taken for even 100 riel then you don't deserve to handle money ever again and should go home
Slow down little world, you're changing too fast.

A foreigner in such a country shouldnt make a fuss of what is the main daily opportunity to increase one of the lowest incomes, without engaging in drugs, exploitation or violence.
Of course it's inflated. That's how you contribute daily to smoothen some people's life.

If you can't afford it, go back home earn what is needed and come back.
