Well that begs the question...is this form OK to be completed in either khmer and english? I mean it's already in khmer without an english one so who's to say any non khmer registrations will be accepted?
I can get Mrs Cargo to help of course but curious to know how you and @Doc67 @timmydownawell registered? English or Khmer?

Well yes I had to complete the non dropdown bits in English. It's obviously not intended for foreigners but I figured better to give it a shot than not.clutchcargo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 8:32 pmWell that begs the question...is this form OK to be completed in either khmer and english? I did mine in English. I can't type my name in Khmer anyway, so they're going to know I'm a foreigner. I can't see any harm in filling it in in English, unless, as I'm starting to suspect, (only a suspicion) there is no intention of vaccinating foreigners after all.clutchcargo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 8:32 pmWell that begs the question...is this form OK to be completed in either khmer and english? I'm totally shocked that this early in the game, it wasn't smooth and that the various hospitals and ministries didn't know what the others were doing/saying.greenstripe99 wrote:A friend and I tried to get vaccinated today at Preah Ang Duong and Calmette.
At PAD they insisted that we had to have a letter from our embassy and refused us on those grounds. They have a sign about this posted at the entrance. We called the Australian Embassy who told us that this was not official policy and had never been discussed and that to their knowledge no embassy was issuing these letters. Furthermore they said that they certainly did not wish to get involved in even indirectly recommending medical treatments for anyone. They said that there was a lot of discussion between different embassies and the Ministry of Health on this issue and that it might be resolved sometime in the future.
At Calmette, we had a letter from our employer (in lieu of a letter frm the embassy) and we made it through the first checkpoint and were issued a number. However after 10 mins of waiting someone came and said that our Employer had to contact the hospital chief to arrange it rather than us turning up with Employer letters. When I asked who the chief was, they insisted that our boss would know him - in other words if you are not so well connected that you don't know the hospital chief then you are not going to get vaccinated.. sort of like "if you need to ask the price of some expensive watch, then you cant afford to buy it"
So at present there seems to be no clear path for foreigners like me to being vaccinated. Both these requirements are almost Catch 22s. But until the misinformation about embassy letters is cleared up, I am not sure that there is much to do.
Of course these things may change but I think until there is another official annuncement abut foreigner vaccinations, I don't think it's worth to go to either of these two hospitals. Plenty of Khmer were being vaccinated while we were waiting but with what vaccine I dont know. Most of these seemed to come in large groups from government offices.

Being vaccinated does greatly reduce the chances of you developing an active infection, it reduces the chance of severe illness to virtually zero, and stops the risk of you dying.xandreu wrote:What scares me, with all the locals getting vaccinated and foreigners not, is that being vaccinated does not stop you from catching it and spreading it around.
So while it won’t stop transmission completely, it will reduce it a lot.

Classic Cambodian paper chase. Keep asking for this and that until you find the one thing the Westerner doesn't have then send them away.greenstripe99 wrote:A friend and I tried to get vaccinated today at Preah Ang Duong and Calmette.

The embassy thing seems like a red herring. It probably went down like this. "How do we get foreigners to stop showing up looking for vaccines? Ah, just tell them to go to their embassy for a "letter", that'll keep them busy and away for a while."
Re: Does anyone know if we can get one of the vaccines?
Our countries develop these vaccines and then give them away to the UN so countries like Cambodia can survive this pandemic and reopen their economies. They have used the vaccines on the great and the good, plus 128,000 military personnel*.

It’s a game changer in western countries where every life is valuable and all medical resources are brought to bear in every situation.jah steu wrote:Being vaccinated does greatly reduce the chances of you developing an active infection, it reduces the chance of severe illness to virtually zero, and stops the risk of you dying.

In the Kingdom of Wonder, not so much. Where foreigners die of heart attacks, drug overdose, either lack of wind or too much wind. And the cops diagnose cause of death on the spot.
The new cases all cluster around where missus used to live in Phnom Penh.
Please be safe out there!
And good luck getting vaccinated!
Even in the western countries, it’s not mass vaccination for everyone yet.

Yeah, I mean I commend the guy for trying, but anyone who's dealt with the Cambodian bureaucracy before knows there are a million Catch-22s involved for even simplest of paperwork. Why he thought this would be any different (especially in the early stages) is a bit funny.Brody wrote:Classic Cambodian paper chase.
