O.K. Guesthouse on street 258 has/had private fan rooms with bathroom for $6 earlier this year. They still might.

Wi-Fi varies per room.

Probably too late, but i distinctly remember the Skypark hotel having a really nice single for like $6, and also a similar hotel like 150 metres along the same road it's on having like $4 rooms. That was a few years ago, so i suppose it's all changed. But i doubt it's changed that much. A few blocks down is the budget capitol tour guesthouse. These hotels are kinda all in walking distance with each other.

You can rent a bicycle and cycle to the sights easily from here. Russian market, central market, S21 all pretty near. Excellent cheap chinese type restaurants, and dim sum Cafe's too.

I've always thought they were a good bargain and the family running it is so nice! Would recommend.

you need to go to agoda and sort by price ascending.
there are good rates available.
but you have to book online to get the best rates.
