Dodgy job offer in Sihanoukville

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Where and for whom are you working?

Do you need an escape exit?

I PM-ed you. I've honestly prepared everything I could for my escape. Such as where to find transport from SHV-PP, flight from PP-home, etc. Just need the balls to do that lol.

That’s fucked up.
I’ve also spoken to another barang and they took his passport. Things got bad down their and they escaped and luckily he had two passports, and gave them the one with no visas in. They never checked, which would ring alarm bells!

Sounds like you need people on the outside. What are you selling or otherwise? Where? Can you PM me if you'd rather? I'm assuming you're straight up, for now. What threats were proclaimed? What about getting fired or quitting? You made mention of a contract. Post it?

P.S. What nationality? Why would you think they wouldn't monitor this site? Staff numbers? Still on the fair dinkum assumption.

$800 to $1000 a month plus all food and accommodation. :beer3:

They wanted native English speakers but it’s for a Chinese company and they wouldn’t say who it’s for as “It’s to protect their security” etc.
The guys pushing it are Singaporean and any basic questions were not answered or they waffled on about “data protection” etc.

The clincher is that you have to stay in their complex for six months and they keep your passport, citing COVID as a reason. You can’t even leave on your days off. They wouldn’t even let us drive down saying they’ll organise all transport.

Sounds like some boiler room scam to me.
I’ve also seen the same advert on a few FB groups but they’ve all been taken down.

Just a heads up. Avoid like the plague.
Please give me their phone number, send it as a pm. I want to flesh this out and pretend interest in a job. I'll not be an easy mark for them.
I'd be interested in learning of your findings.
I called the phone number that was given to me by the OP and asked if there are any jobs still available. The guy said his name was Perry. He asked what country I was from, and told me that they have many jobs, and asked me to send my CV. He was supposed to send me more of his contact info but hasn't yet.

I have my old passport with me, but it's expired already and the immigration cut the pages once I got a new one. My visa is on the new one, which they held for working permit, visa extension, and vaccination handling. I wish I also had two valid passports so I could do what your friends did lol but unfortunately I'm not in favor of that.

I certainly do. I don't know anyone here, except for my high school friend who also works in the same city (but different company, same field/business model though). But I can't really rely on him as he told me he's going back home as soon as it's feasible. No threats so far but I doubt they'd let me go that easily, as they've spent way too much to flew me here. I will PM you other deets as I'm afraid someone would spot me in this forum.

Will PM you. I somehow have more trust for random strangers in this forum than anyone in my company. That pretty much says it all innit lmao

This all sounds like those dodgy mafia run online casino scams from the very first post.
They kidnap, extort and murder their employees you know.

That's all it's about yes.

For anyone reading this, please be aware of this scam and spare yourself some self-respect.

I know things are hard with rona still attacking us, and how our economy is falling apart. But seriously, the risk is NOT worth it. Unless you're willing to risk your freedom and safety for money... my advice is don't do it.
