Cambodia is great now. The snowbirds and blow ins have rapidly disappeared.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Doesn't it lack some of its energy though with so many people, both locals and expats, "stranded" overseas? Also, the absence of those foreign big spenders has got to be hurting the economy in a big way. I imagine a lot of businesses that cater to them are struggling.John Bingham wrote: ↑Thu Aug 06, 2020 11:44 pm Cambodia is great now. The snowbirds and blow ins have rapidly disappeared.

The world is on a slow down.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Cambodia is much more quiet than it used to be, and the economy has taken a serious beating.techietraveller84 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2020 12:53 amDoesn't it lack some of its energy though with so many people, both locals and expats, "stranded" overseas? But it's not much different from other areas, isn't it. Wait for the government support in the West to dry up and a lot of people will hit rock bottom there as well.
As long as you don't have financial problems Cambodia is a great place to spend this pandemic.

We were hoping to go early next year, but until the restrictions have been lifted, there is no point. At some point, there will have to be a return to business as normal or economies will collapse. We would come and spend a fair bit as we haven't been for a couple of years; I'm sure we're not the only ones.

Can't tell anything is different here. They just built a bar next door. Filled with Khmers literally day and night: drinking, screaming, laughing and singing. They don't seem to have a worry in the world.

International travel might start to return to normal in late 2022, maybe.Cambo Dear wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 5:49 pm We were hoping to go early next year, but until the restrictions have been lifted, there is no point. Come back to this post in 2 years and see if I was correct.

The "Travel Restrictions will be in force until the covid 19 is over'" really means"Travel Restrictions will be in force forever" I sure hope I have to eat my words but its a hope for the best, prepare for the worst situation.

Yes, you are absolutely correct. I keep wondering how long it will take the majority of people to realize that.Dunderhead wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 6:08 pm The "Travel Restrictions will be in force until the covid 19 is over'" really means"Travel Restrictions will be in force forever"

JB - yes maybe great for you but is it great for the Khmers when the second largest sector of the economy (tourism) is basically gone. And irrespective of the OP's rationale, if it is indeed "difficult to come to Cambodia" then they won't. And combined with the current downturn of the garment factories, maybe not everyone agrees that "Cambodia is great now". Just saying.John Bingham wrote: ↑Thu Aug 06, 2020 11:44 pm Cambodia is great now. The snowbirds and blow ins have rapidly disappeared.
