its been a lie since the 50s when they cant find any other uses for diamonds other than industrial, so they came up with the diamonds are the girls best friends marketing campaign, and comes the downfall of all future husbands and fiance

It’s not really news.
In fact I think it was a brilliant marketing excercise, just after the war.

All commodities are controlled in some way so why do people get all angry that De Beers make shit loads of money?
What about OPEC, steel manufacturers or even governments adjusting tariffs or subsidies to regulate the market? They’re all controlled and regulated otherwise the companies/governments would go bust or lose money.

If you don’t agree with it don’t buy diamonds. You have a choice.

So you’re saying the price of diamonds and rarity are a lie but you’re ok with buying a Ruby?

Most diamonds in engagement rings are of low quality. Get a top quality diamond and you’ll see the difference. It’s far superior to any other gemstone.

Diamonds are a big lie ! The royal crown of England has no diamonds in it.... The jewels on the death masks of the pharaohs of Egypt have no diamonds... Why... because diamonds are actually a very common gem stone and until the late 1800's the only use of diamonds was industrial. (eg. crushed diamonds on sand paper/grinding stones and topping drill tips).
The value of them today is because De Beers bought all the diamond mines to artificially create a rare commodity and caused an inflation of the price to give them profits. Diamonds are really very common stones.

I read once about an African diamond mind that was producing 10's of kilos of diamonds daily. They only have this value is because nobody can sell diamonds except to De Beers. They control the price.
