Re: cya
rural people sometimes ask me if i can "work rice"
they never wait for an answer- they just start laughing
the place i am living now suits me best of anywhere i have lived here so far.
many foreigners living around this predominately Cham area.
it is out in the countryside but there is a full on tourist town 4 km away where i shop twice a week.
about the only foreigner goods i buy are bread and cheese
i like it out of town, nature has not been wholly crushed here yet

The problem about living in the countryside for most foreigners will be to make enough money. Most locals make their money with (small scale) farming, buying and selling land and having all kinds of small businesses. In my opinion, to become a respected foreigner around your place, you have to find your own 'niche' of work that will not compete with a local business - then it's pretty easy to blend in if you can manage the language.
The OP seems rather optimistic he 'will make it there', unless you find your own niche in the livelihoods it can be a pain in the ass to make enough money for yourself and your family in the boonies.

Re: cya
very true.
i would look at baking baguettes and distilling if i was really going bush
sandwiches, ice coffee, bobor, free wifi and a pool table all are great biz way out in the sticks.
feed any leftovers to chickens and pigs and make them into sandwiches and bobor.
at least if there is no competition
the bee business that occupies me now actually conforms to your specs.

Considering keeping home and turning into pub. I pay 50$ per month for it. Electric runs around 7 $ as it sits. Will be the only one in the village inside. TV, bar small store. Nothing fancy. Will let her run it. Problem is that it is a rental and I know how that will go. The owner will reclaim it once it is successful. Have some opportunities in the city with Khmer I know. I have been offered work managing guest houses and a bartending job. You are correct about the bar job. Was offered 60 per month and all the beer I can drink. Offered during the low of the low season. Had to politely turn it down. In communication with some schools who want me to interview as well.

Sorry buddy, I don't want to slash you, but did you ever give it a thought why nobody has set up a pub like business in that town yet?

OP, your game plan sounds a bit too thought out for a man who was going to blow his brains out just one day ago.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.
Re: cya
I think this would help him if he goes that route!

You installed a new tile floor and water pump in a $50 a month rental?
Re: cya
I think this is very pseudo naive trollish posting. As I posted on TOF a while back:
"We have had quite a few PuNTs (Pseudo naive troll) posts lately mixed in with naive posts. This technique works well because it blurs the boundary between trolling and stupidity. Poe's law states: Without a clear indication of the author's intent, it is difficult or impossible to tell the difference between an expression of sincere extremism and a parody of extremism.and I think this can probably be extended beyond extremism. I think because of this readers are often a bit wary of calling troll on every naive post. If its a new poster they just go along with it for a while, and give the troll the benefit of the doubt. Also it can be entertaining. "
