Customs DIDN'T steal gifts in post Phnom Penh

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I'm an optimist, so I think this "could" be down to a bad description over the phone, so far.

It seems like it would be a lot of hassle to go and buy you watches to replace the ones they have allegedly stolen from you, when it would be easier to tell you they disappeared.

Also, I've never heard of this particular scam from customs, so it makes me think they just described them poorly over the phone.

Anything is possible, but I wouldn't call it a scam yet based on some postal worker's description of them over the phone and without seeing them first.

The watches on the Nixon homepage certainly look like they are made of plastic. Perhaps that's the confusion.

To be fair, you're getting a second hand translation of a Khmer conversation.

They might have swapped them out with plastic mickey mouse watches, but without collecting them, how will anyone every know? Are you going to just leave them there and never find out what is going on?

If anything, they're probably more interested in charging the addressee import taxes for imported luxury goods.

Just go and bloody collect them. Why send watches to Cambodia anyway. You can’t eat them.

It was a Cambodian they told the watches are plastic and yes they will go have a look and see if they are the watches we sent and if not they will tell them to send back to me and fill out paperwork to say they are not what was sent then Australia post will investigate and worl out compensation apparently

Now that's funny! Being an optimist is a lot more fun, and sometimes you're actually right!
