In an article about the new HQ in the Darknet, it said that it was funded by 'party members' and 'business people' and that it was "no problem" getting the 30 million.

If they can do a 30 million dollar whip-round for a building........does an international aid agency, the World Food Programme, really need to orchestrate the feeding of citizens in Siem Reap?

What's the cherished local phrase? "Khmer love Khmer"?

290 sub-par army trucks financed by "angel donors". A $30 million headquarter also financed by "angel donors". RGC could be the potential mysterious buyer of China's FTC-2000G fighter jet. We won't get into the multiple mansions and luxury cars at home and abroad owned by the so called excellencies...

International donors should learn something from the Swedish government, and to some extent, the EU. Time to cut off the aid and trade preferential treatments. The people will suffer the most but maybe then they will realize they've been cheated by the samdech coconut excellency of banana republic for over 30years... It won't be pretty.

The point is that I was agreeing with what you say. I have no "irony" button, but I thought the $ with "donators$" and the "gracious" adjective spelt it out. Obviously not.

theres a difficulty which is that people with low IQs are unemployable. Ive offered quite a few people here well paid easy jobs but they think working is above their station in life and prefer to beg, or worse, expect their daughters or sisters to support them thru prostitution. they dont want to be tied to a job or do the work I guess. I dont like seeing the wasteful excessiveness of the ruling class here but on the other hand I wont be selling my car to give money to people that made the career choice to be beggars or pimps and are currently having a hard time of it

Today I hired a few guys to put up some poles for a fence for 20k riels a day plus water. My life's just so boring.

I guess after more than 10 years in Cambodia minor details like that don't matter anymore.

what does social circles have to do with it? every time I go outside Im approached by people asking for money or selling sexual services. khmer people tell me that most of them are begging because they are too lazy to work and thats been my experience as well. Im not saying they represent the whole country, just that I wouldnt sell my car for them
