Couple Accused of Doing a Runner in Kampot
Cambodia News, Kampot: It was reported on Kampot social media today that this couple have run away from their guest house without paying their bill. They are said to have recently migrated to Kampot from Koh Rong.
If anyone sees the people concerned, either get in touch with Ly Ang at Mama's Family guesthouse, or approach them and suggest to them that they go to the guest house and settle their bill as soon as possible. Cambodia is a small country and all the borders are closed.
CEO Edit: The couple are believed to be Turkish, not Israeli, as suggested earlier.

Giving credit is a business practice I will never understand. Even less so to Israelis and absolutely never to freaks like that.

I think that their nationality is Turkish.
I've almost never paid a room in advance. Ofc, in the west a hotel would put a block on a debit or credit card.

It just does not make sense. especially for guesthouses having such a small profit margin. I mean FB is full of posts like that.Jerry Atrick wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2020 7:28 pm I think that their nationality is Turkish.

If I was an hotel owner i would find myself stupid if not charging the people daily.
As a customer i always pay rooms daily if I don't know how long i will be there. People not doing this just look like cheaters to me. Idiots also.

I'll explain it to you Hanno like I see it - I don't know how the top hotels work, but most of the smaller guest houses run tabs for their customers who order food and drinks from their bar/restaurant. Some of them ask for room rent up front when you first arrive (and passport photos so they should know their nationality), but often, once there's been a 'goodwill payment', then you can stick everything else on the tab. This encourages people who stay at the guesthouse to spend their money there; it's easy, they order now and pay later.hanno wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2020 7:31 pmIt just does not make sense. especially for guesthouses having such a small profit margin. However, $300 is a lot to run up on a tab in Cambodia, so staff need to be cautious. But you know, these people have been staying a long time, so they must be ok...It sort of makes sense.

That's the rationale, it's just that Hanno also runs hotels in the region and thinks it's a dumb business practice.Anchor Moy wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2020 8:59 pm I'll explain it to you Hanno like I see it - I don't know how the top hotels work, but most of the smaller guest houses run tabs for their customers who order food and drinks from their bar/restaurant. Maybe the hotels that allow tabs make more money by allowing tabs than they lose. Perhaps we only hear about the one occasional customer who runs a tab and flees and there are 99 other customers who run up tabs and pay the bills and wouldn't otherwise have spent that money if they weren't allowed to run a tab.
Re: Couple Accused of Doing a Runner in Kampot
Well, Kampot River Bungalows are really cheap accommodation (I think in the 5-6 dollar range), so how this couple can run up a bill of $300 is a mystery to me.
Anyway, if any guest wants to run a tab, that's ok, but then the golden rules of running a tab apply.
These are:
By the way, why is it that this couple "may be" of Israeli nationality? They were not properly registered with a copy of their passports or what?

These are:
- You give us your passport(s)
- Don't let it run up to anything more than $100
- And indeed, as @hanno mentioned: check the types that apply for it, and don't be afraid to decline if you don't trust them.
By the way, why is it that this couple "may be" of Israeli nationality? They were not properly registered with a copy of their passports or what?
