Could it get any worse than this ?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Could it get any worse than this ?

Post by zmth »

Can't say for 100% sure because haven't been there myself in almost one year but from what I hear never heard of a place going from desirable to hell within less than one years time.... in fact need some more direct opinions and verification.

It was bad enough walkabout closed i think some time
in 2016 after my first visit to Phnom Penh in late 2015. Now a guy i met a week ago or so
here in Cebu city, Philippines , tells me now what was Golden Sorya mall is no more.
I have no reason not to believe him,esp since i read something about it was going to soon
shut down in some past post i read on this site. So now Phnom Penh to me is a no go
(other than what I found a couple pharmacies were selling something interesting illegally) since
first GSM , better than anywhere else i know of at this time in SE Asia - dangerous yea but....,
and 2nd 'walk about' in Phnom Penh anyway were my favorite hangouts.

But anyway more than that , and somebody please tell me it isn't true, in Sihanoukville. ...
He said he had lived in Sihanoukville 7 years, took a loss in rather quickly selling much of
his possessions, and just moved from there to here in Cebu city because Chinese are buying
up so much property(including his apartment complex) and replacing much with casinos, etc. and things have gotten more expensive.

AND especially my favorite hangouts in Sihanoukville: Utopia, Big Easy, and in that line going north west to south east of bars closer to the main Serendipity beach where most all were selling the cheapest
beers for one dollar: Dolphin shack, Sessions, Rocky's +...,usual largest crowd,(not sure
if i have these exact names and spellings correct) and go
a ways further south east , kind of at the end of the line, after that rather dark dangerous stretch
in the early am hours, that rather popular ( I forgot the name of it) bar is also closed.
Could someone verify all of this - all of these are no more ? !

And is there now not any interesting inexpensive replacement(s) for these places(not casinos)
which has a good fair percentage number of Western etc. girls, like at least generally 70% of the number
of males and total people at the peak hours like more
than 20 (I mean other than local and essentially 'white' and not prostitutes)
hanging out in them, if any ?

You mean Phnom Penh as a whole?
"Life is too important to take seriously."

Haha, "hell" is when you no longer have access to dirt cheap beer, meth and skanky hookers, I guess.

I went past GSM yesterday, it is just being refurbished and the southern part is still open. Your post is all over the place, you should try writing before you inject yourself with ketamine.
