Content, or lack thereof

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Agreed.

No issue with people who disagree, but I do with those who disagree without respect for others, and those who screech to be heard/respected without listening or respecting. I give up at that point and go and do something meaningful. As much as posters have suggested I'm 'protected' as the 'Evangelical Megaposter' or somesuch (man, you should witness some of the disagreements I have with management), I feel that there certainly are those that are protected by admin as they overtly troll to bring CEO down to the level of their own forum, or just derail (especially religious) threads by attacking the poster without genuinely engaging with what is being said.

I hold special contempt for keyboard warriors, one of the lowest forms of filth online, IMO. Just my 100r worth - no, I don't want the change.

(Getting in ahead of those who have nothing else to offer: Yes, I'm aware that's not very Christ-like, and no, I have not asked WWJD.)
Your patience with the abuse you took was admirable. And when you refused to be riled, they said you were " passive aggressive" lol. You can't win with these guys.
I agree the trolls are overly protected. One of them should have been told to stop the personal abuse in his posts. It's a tired old m.o, " put the pipe down", " are you SC", " a sock puppet" etc. Very disruptive, and must put lurkers off joining in.
I had a look at a 440 religion thread, and he was accusing a guy of being you :-) , he's obsessed.

You don't have to "win" anything. Make your points and move on. Too many last-word freaks.

Thanks UKJ, that's kind of you to say.

Actually, I learned a lot from those couple of exchanges, including your point that "you can't win with these guys". These guys include a few that were not directly involved in the discussions that have carried that passive/aggressive thing further - I think I'm one of the least P/A posters here, I'm just plain aggressive when I feel the need. The other lesson is that when the attacker is not engaging with what you're actually saying, move on. Don't argue with stupid, it only rubs off. Personal attacks, misquotes, quotes out of context, and just outright lying, are not uncommon with these guys - why waste time with that?

It's definitely putting lurkers off participating. Why would less experienced posters wade into that level of abuse? I've met a number of lurkers face to face who admit they'd like to play, but not to fight, and it's a real shame they're being held back by one or two.

Yeah, it's true bromance. I have offered dinner and drinks, but unfortunately he's shy.

It's a figure of speech.
Calling people a racist or bigot, will usually get a negative response, and vigorous denial, and asking them to back it up. I left a thread because of it, and didn't respond in another thread. Hardly a last word freak, imho.

Too many people getting involved in others exchanges, with uncalled for personal insults, and repeating them later, if they don't get a response. I ignored you the last time you said that, and you have said it again. Is it something you want to discuss? Are you trying to start an argument? I don't think I'm a last word poster, nor a freak. That is what we are talking about. Uncalled for personal insults, that can only really go downhill.

Wow, thanks a lot to all of you guys! You've really given us some food for thought.

I guess what I mainly mean when I call CEO a community project, is that we actually take all of this on board and are more than willing to change things around to improve the site as our members see fit.

A lot of really good ideas, and we'll use some, no doubt.

Also, there has clearly been a push by several posters to help get things more lively over the last day or so, including going out of their way to come up with fresh thread ideas and post them here! We can't thank you enough, and it really shows what a difference it makes here!

Anywho, we do like feedback from the CEO community, including the criticism. I've always hated people that abuse their power, show favorites or that think they're right about how things should be ran over others, simply because they're the ones calling the shots. So, we have no inflated ego when it comes to hearing brutal feedback and use it to revise the game plan accordingly.

And I'm glad to hear you aren't too upset about the negative karma, UKJ. I know admin are naturally held to a higher standard, so when we do things one doesn't agree with, it can be even more upsetting.

OK, I think that's all I wanted to say. Thanks, all!

Fuck, it's "Isaan" and not "Essan" - give me a break ! It took me 30 minutes to understand what you are talking about. Anyway - so far so good: please continue ;)
umm...I've seen it spelled Esan, Issan Issarn, Esarn and probably a couple other ways TOO. I believe you can see the Esarn spelling on HIGHWAY SIGNAGE up that way. Just because some king "standardized" roman letter spelling of Thai don't mean they all agree and DO. TiT eh?

oh, and for ME this is new/more content :P

Cheers :thumb: There's an article in todays paper about female only MP candidate lists. I'll post it in the general chatter section, as the female forum has been stolen. Probably by some guy who steals women's laundry!
The forum is better just now. We can even mention religion again.

Just a few thoughts. I did not read all 10 pages of posts so if I am repeating something sorry.

There has been a shallow pool of content lately. But if you try and read K440 it is weaker. Lulls happen on boards ...yes. I am very happy this board was created because of the lack of censorship. I also don't like the high brow attitude of what K440 has been. Maybe with new management things will change. This board has a more free for all attitude which I like very much. I really hope this board has great success. As for new blood or newbie posters there are a few posters who add nothing but snide responses. For ones with thin skin it most likely is a total turn off. A good rule of thumb should be don't make a post that supposedly make you look funny or better at another persons expense. Common courtesy. Posters regulate yourselves because I, and I am sure most members don't want K440 style moderation.

Just a few thoughs

I'm always bemused by someone who declares they haven't read a thread, but wants to comment on the lack of quality...

Not aimed at you, picooie, good post - just an observation.
