Content, or lack thereof

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

The members thank the Honourable Member for Wigan for his contribution, particularly:
EdinWigan wrote:You older, more seasoned members can help this process by identifying, and challenging these 5th columnists, who have buried deep in our midst, hell bent on destruction and discord on behalf of an ideology of past forums.
BlindFreddy* can see that certain posters are here only to strangle reasonable conversation and adult debate/disagreement, those same posters often being active members (and moderators) of the other forum. I think Ed's comments about "if your ONLY contribution is to tear down..." (paraphrasing) then "piss off" (again) is on the money.

* that would be a great sock puppet name

Pizzalover wrote:What sets the Cambodia boards aside from similar ones on Thailand and the Phils I am familiar with is this incredible degree of inbreeding. Perhaps the country is so small and has just a few places where foreigners congregate that the posters know each other well enough in person to confuse online with the evening in the pub. This would explain the infantile hostility against new-comers regularly expressed on the other board. Here it is much better.
What both boards sadly lack is a solid info section. Somehow all is anyhow known to all and not discussed. Apparently, there is no or hardly a need to share info on practical aspects. I know there were some posts and they do pop up but in volume and sometimes also in quality this is very poor as compared to those boards on Thailand or Phils.

A provocative thought: maybe the cambodia expats are less sophisticated than their peers in Thailand. Could it be that the proverbial Pattaya whore monger has more insights about Thailand than the expat philosophers from the GSM?

More seriously: This board is more inclusively than the other and that might make the difference in the long run. But I agree the actual content is not very enticing at the moment and I noticed my online time dropping (also on the other one where I do not post).
All one has to do is ask. I'm sure we would help.

I do think the whole "MISSING ACCOMPLISHED" factor is an important one.

A rather large amount of posters (I'd wager 30% or so) were here because they didn't like KeepingItReil and the way he ran K440. Having him step down from the helm was a huge victory and whether he wants to admit it or not, CEO was instrumental in this. But once that happened, things died down a bit. I have nothing against Scobienz and have always liked him as a poster. I see no need to boycott K440 anymore so I've started posting there again. No more or less than here though as to be honest I haven't posted much or contributed to either forum since he left. Seems I've lost my raison d'être... ;-) Nah, but seriously, I haven't felt the need to create quality content or make quality posts on either site in a while. I'm into Ricecakes mode: asking a million questions. Back on K440 I mostly wrote about travel/motorcycle riding in the countryside, but that never generated much interest as the core group of people interested was small. Also, one disadvantage of having a big site with more traffic (like K440), is that when you DO finally see a thread which interests you or which you would be qualified to talk about, it might already be 5 pages long, which kills any interest in reading through it all and trying to have your point seen/heard.

go and add some stories on the thread i started, https://cambodiaexpatsonline.com/viewtop ... 258#p29258
lest see how many people can add something about somewhere they have been and an experience.
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
