Content, or lack thereof

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Hey if you are going to do restaurant reviews then the best people to do it are white women.

They get to combine the two things they do best, eating and bitching.

If it were up to me, but it's not, I would make the blog.php the Home page, and the current 'Articles' link would become the 'Forum' link.

Next, I would encourage/invite certain members to blog anytime they mention an experience that could be blogged rather than just another forum post.
We completely disagree on that. The other forum already does exactly what you suggest, but does not have near enough new front page content available, which means new readers to their site see the same articles for weeks at a time on their front page between updates. (And those photos? Don't you get sick of seeing those same photos on their homepage for months and months?) Plus, so few members here bother to post at all as it is. You think suddenly members of CEO will start creating new and interesting blog posts worthy of a front page posting, when the other site has trouble even paying for decent writing?

If the CEO owners insist this is some sort of hobby site, and unconcerned with monetization or competition, then they are on the right track and should change nothing. The other site does see you as competition, and judging by readers online at any given moment, they are sailing ahead fast. As I write this, there are nearly 5x more people currently on there than here. Just last month that number consistently hovered around 1.5x to 2x, and on occasion was almost 1:1. You can only play the "we're only a few months old" bit for so long, and even then only as long as the trend is in your favor. That is not what appears to be happening.

There you have it.

If Mark Zuckerberg doesn't decide to buy it in a few years, that's OK, because I had no intentions to quite my day job either way.

If y'all want this forum to survive, you better put some thought and effort in to it.
So, what kind of content did you have in mind?

I don't see what statement of mine you find contradictory. I made it clear that IF the owners are content with the status quo, then that's fine and I'll not give a damn either. I would think anyone putting forth the effort and expense to create new forum would want to see it thrive, not just squeak by with a handful of active posters...but that takes considerable effort which I don't see forthcoming. Fully half the total posts on CEO have been made by only 10 people, and the number of viewers at any given time is on the slight decline, even if a trickle of new registered members continues. I have been monitoring the numbers since inception. The other forum activity is on the rise and this one is not.

I was encouraging them not to be complacent. They say they are content with their progress. Fair enough.

As for new content by others, I have nothing specific in mind. That is not my responsibility, although I have started more new threads here than most others. I am, however, losing interest in this forum, as it's not very active. If I am the only one who feels this way then that's fine, too. No big deal. Carry on.

You go a bit further than me, actually. You criticized new content that you personally don't find interesting or relevant. I say most new content is good for the forum, even those that I am not personally interested in. I will gladly pick and choose which ones to read and contribute to and which ones to avoid. But my concerns are about so little content on offer at all, and so few members participating. I don't want to beat this to death so I'll say no more on this topic.

**I see the other site has totally changed their front page just now and got rid of those awful scrolling pictures (for now at least). Not sure if it's an improvement, but at least they are trying new things.

Would you like to share your thoughts on what you might do, if it were up to you?
Surely, there are other sites you like to follow. What is it about them that CEO could learn from?

Don't just throw the subject ('Content - or lack thereof') in there, and then say it's not your responsibility to say one way or the other. Feel free to make suggestions. What would you like to see from CEO to make it a site that you'd want to visit regularly?

Don't say 'content'. What sort of content?

You're here because you hate the 'tyrant'. Seems that the tyrant has left the building. So, what now?

I'm pretty confident some of you guys are too old to be smelling quite so much like teen spirit. I know I am.

No, seriously, we're going to attack the management - that gives us a free service, currently at their own expense - because we don't like the content or the quantity of content on a member participation site? Sheesh. Some folk really are 'Bored in Bodge'. Or twelve.

^^ So, you don't want additional content?

If you do, then I'm sure your suggestions would also be appreciated by 'the management'.

What sort of content would you like to see included Stroppy?
