Confused Frenchman in Sihanoukville Hospital has Bad Amnesia

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

From experience, in SHV it is usually the liver and other internal organs that fail first.
Maurice is probably one of the fittest elderly in town, he could probably have outrun me... as long as he knew where he was going...

The french warden and Maurice friends/neighbors took him home yesterday. However it might happen again as he is still oblivious about his identity and surroundings.
Although Alzheimer's can progress rapidly, it doesn't happen over night, ever. If he was fine one day, and then suffering confusion and major memory loss the next day, it's more likely a stroke or mini-stroke (TIA) or something similar. He needs to get to a real hospital ASAP to make sure sure he isn't bleeding into his brain or suffering a clot, and if it was a stroke or TIA, to get him on the appropriate medication.
B_d_s, did you listen to LTO? Your friend needs a real hospital, it seems to me. Here's a WebMD report on memory loss: http://www.webmd.com/brain/memory-loss

Reminds me of this joke:

Guy goes to the doctor to follow up on some tests.

Doctor: I've got bad news; your tests came back positive for cancer.
Patient: Oh my god. That's horrible.
Doctor: That's not all. Seems you have Alzheimer's as well.

The patient thinks about it for a moment.

Patient: Oh well. At least I don't have cancer
.

:dm:

PS Wish the best for Maurice.
It's all foma ~ kv
