colonoscopy?
colonoscopy?
Anyone had a colonoscopy performed here in Phnom Penh?
Re: colonoscopy?
Nope but the day after I've had a vegetarian curry I feel like I'm prepared for one
I'm standing up, so I must be straight.

Re: colonoscopy?
Well, an update on a colonoscopy.... I had one at Royal Phnom Penh hospital recently. A few years ago I had one at the Bangkok Hospital too. I was advised to have another in five years time. I nearly entered the seventh year since, so decided to bite the bullet have one done in Cambodia rather than Thailand.
The Royal Phnom Penh is OK when it comes to the medical procedure. The doc was well informed, skilled, communicated great, and took his time. The advertised base-price is 655 USD for a colonoscopy (https://royalphnompenhhospital.com/package-detail/21).
But the financials are horrendous.
First of all, you need a 'clearance for treatment'. This includes some blood tests (full blood count, kidney test, electrolytes test), an ECG and a double (quick) covid test. Total just under 400 USD. Bangkok Hospital didn't require 'clearance' for this. You can have these tests done elsewhere for 30-40 USD by the way and quick covid tests costs 5 USD. Royal Phnom Peng charges 95 USD for one.
Then the procedure, which is offered for 655,-. That's the basic price. Of course extra's like removal of polyps, biopsy, pathology etc are charged extra.
But.... there's also an extra to hear the results of the procedure (50 USD, totally insane to not include it in the package). So even if your bowel is totally fine, and the specialist just has a look, you're still looking at 400 (clearance) + 655 (package) + 50 (result) = 1,105 USD. That's over double I paid in Bangkok and 69% over the advertised package price.
Surcharges for medical extra's are about 300% of what Bangkok Hospital charges by the way. For instance pathology costs 150 USD (Bangkok: 1.500 THB).
Totally I paid about 1.464 USD for a colonoscopy at Royal Phnom Penh hospital. For comparison, in Bangkok I paid less than half of that for the same procedure.
It was done properly, nothing to complain about when it comes to the medical side. Procedure lasted a bit longer than usual (so they charged me for 20ML of extra anesthetic), but the (sur)charges are simply ridiculous. You can have it done in Bangkok the same or better for half that price. So.... Pray for a soon reopening. Despite the advertised 655 USD there's no way you can have colonoscopy at the Royal Phnom Penh for that price.
But if you need one, and you have the dosh, @ Royal Phnom Penh the doc's know their stuff when it comes to this procedure. Unfortunately the financial department is out of their mind.

Don't the best people go to China for health care?
Re: colonoscopy?
They treat you like a peasant and squeeze the last coin out of you. When they draw blood they will even charge 0.55$ for the alcohol wipe...
Thanks, bragging rights. Just what I needed...
Looking forward to your detailed info about a medical procedure in Phnom Penh.

Re: colonoscopy?
Yeah, I called RPP in 2019 to inquire about endoscopy and was taken aback by their rates, add on's and the general rude/dumb demeanor of the woman on the other end of the phone. It would have been over $600 iirc plus the extrasKammekor wrote: ↑Fri Sep 03, 2021 5:34 pm Well, an update on a colonoscopy.... I had one at Royal Phnom Penh hospital recently. In the end I chose Central hospital, skipped the sedation to save cash, and was out for $160 and a perfectly competent consultation afterward with their guy included in the total
