Re: Close calls in the KOW
Well 200mg 3 times a day is what I'm doing.
Re: Close calls in the KOW
I would like to suggest you read about Cipro & tendons disconnecting. If you are certain there is a BACTERIAL infection then Amoxicylin may be a better choice. Great for upper respiratory infections, sinus, bronchial etc. Much better tolerated & sans side effects of Cipro. If you have a cough along with the other symptoms a codeine based product will help with that & the Acetylcystein will quell the opiate itch often associated with codeine.Advocatus Diaboli wrote:Stick a note to your chest saying "pneumonia pathogens welcome."rick_o'shea wrote: Brown mucus for breakfast lunch and dinner. Any idea what will shift it without resorting to antibiotics?
Seriously: take Ciprofloxacin and something that contains Acetylcystein (cough expectorant).

Close calls in the KOW
The last antibiotic I used for a chest infection was erythromycin. The effect was noticeable within a day, and 5 days had me well cured. I'm trying not to resort to antibiotics this time and I think I've got it beat. Partly as I'm on paid leave at the moment so can fully rest up.
I don't like the sound of tendons disconnecting.
I don't use codeine.

Be careful with this Luigi - Amoxicylin, Ampicillin, Tetracycline is prohibited from clinical use in Europe. It's prohibited for a reason: these are old antibiotics that actually don't help anymore. Even though there are several generations of these antibiotics available in Cambodia you never can be sure which generation you actually get (even the newest generation of the antibiotics mentioned above is at least 7 years old !!!) You have to go for new 3rd or even 4th generation antibiotics.Luigi wrote: If you are certain there is a BACTERIAL infection then Amoxicylin may be a better choice.

Re: Close calls in the KOW
I call BS on that, I was on work placement at GSK churning out Amoxycillin at their Worthing facilities in the UK in the 90s and got it prescribed for an infection less than 10 years ago in the UK. It's not banned from clinical use, it's a WHO essential medicine. Yes, it's derived from penicillin but if it still works you should use it first, you should not move straight to the newer generation antibiotics because those ones are the last ones we have left, and thus should be minimally exposed. You don't want your own personal form of drug-resistant bacteria, but if it's just penicillin resistant you still have a hope of a cure.Advocatus Diaboli wrote:Be careful with this Luigi - Amoxicylin, Ampicillin, Tetracycline is prohibited from clinical use in Europe. Re: Close calls in the KOW
Back to the OP:
When I go any distance, I use a big bloody pick-up truck. I also run and cycle a lot.
With all these modes of transports I have almost daily close calls; getting wiped out on Cambodia's roads seems a real possibility. I mean when I run early in the morning I have so many flashing lights on me that I look like an e effing Christmas tree and those fuggers still don't see me........

Sometimes it's healthier to stay at home and smoke a cigarette.

Re: Close calls in the KOW
Thanks hanno. We've all had 'almost daily close calls' on the roads.... I was just wondering which ones you remember most. On my first motorbike commute here 8 years ago, I tried to sneak around the back of a truck entering a compound. But, as it climbed the small ramp it stalled and rolled back at me. It scratched my hand on the handlebar but luckily I was lower than the truck height so sneaked gingerly under the back end.

Re: Close calls in the KOW
On an earlier visit a minibus swerved to avoid a pothole, despite knowing I was overtaking him. I regained consciousness in a dry rice paddy with my arm messed up and a yeay happily babbling at me. Fortunately the bike came down on me hot side up, so no exhaust burn. My riding guide eventually came back but was more concerned about the bike than me once he determined I wasn't dead or still unconscious (at which point he would have possibly "checked my ID").
Bodge: This ain't Kansas, and the neighbours ate Toto!
