I'll pass on the strange description, but after that almost fatal bout with Typhoid the geezer wasn't in good shape, so not all that unlikely.frank lee bent wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2017 7:52 pm how likely is it that a rising academic slipped when getting out of bed and died.

Ah, in a Tuk-Tuk. That's a lot worse.Ronny wrote:No cars involved, General, and it was actually pretty scary and I don't scare easily. The phone was a heat of the moment thing- seemed like the only thing to do. What would YOU have done?General Mackevili wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2017 6:09 pm I don't see any real reason to think the Uber driver was involved. He stayed calm. Good for him. I also don't think getting on the phone would be enough to call off a crime ring consisting of 4 motos and a car.
Who else knew your whereabouts.....? Maybe it was some Filipino friends chasing you down to say you were about to miss a round of blackjack...
I'd have lobbed a few grenades.
JK, I think you made the right move.

He died in a cloud of poison fumes fermented from the bile and hatred he managed to arouse in his swamp like environment. Everyone lived happily ever after. Re: A Close Call
I've been here more than 20 years and the only time I have had to deal with "jaos" trying to kill me was around 1996-7 and that was once or twice. I have always driven myself and from around 2000 there has been no problem. It seems that problems you encounter depends on the area you live. If its a pretty "dubious area" you have problems , if your in a decent area you don't. I have lived in quite a few areas over the years and non of them have been a problem.Ronny wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2017 3:53 pm Was this a set up by the Uber driver as he seemed so calm the whole time? And does this kind of shit happen a lot here? If so, this place is fucked up as it was only 9 pm and we were going home by Uber. What do you guys think? And past experiences from you guys?
Re: A Close Call
Pulling out your phone and waving it around when you're boxed in by freshy boy jaos doesn't seem like a good idea.
What do you think they were planning to do? besides rob you of anything within reaching distance. You know, like a phone.

Re: A Close Call
Probably just some sort of mafia mob trying to intimidate the Uber guy.
Next time, use the local tuk-tuk guy who's sitting on the street corner.

Re: A Close Call
They obviously had something in mind. 4 motos driving up beside you- 2 on each side, for no reason at all and glaring at you can't be a positive thing. Why they deciding to fuck off is beyond me but thankfully they did. Maybe they went off to search for easier prey. And no, I wasn't "waving my phone around" ss another poster suggested.lipservice wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2017 5:54 am Probably just some sort of mafia mob trying to intimidate the Uber guy.

I'm assuming you have a car or truck then? If so, that changes everything completely. Damn it I miss my truck. Left it in Thailand and gave it to my son.Kuroneko wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2017 10:04 pmI've been here more than 20 years and the only time I have had to deal with "jaos" trying to kill me was around 1996-7 and that was once or twice. Re: A Close Call
Canada and US has way worse neighbourhoods and cities than anything I've seen in SEA by far. Check out Gary, Indiana or Lac La Ronge, Saskatchewan for a start. Too much meth with high unemployment and you can't even leave the house without getting mugged or worse.Ronny wrote:Nope, these guys definitely were up to something but you either believe me or you don't. Scarier places in Canada? What happened, did you get attacked by an elk when you were out in the boonies?Gardiguy wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2017 8:38 pmI'm not saying that those moto guys weren't going to rob you but I find it unlikely. Even more unlikely that the passapp driver would have been involved, sometimes when they map out the trip it will go through some "sketchy" areas, but really, I've been to much scarier places in Canada than anything I've seen in Phnom Penh and much later than 9pm.Ronny wrote:Pass App... my bad...
