If only he was drunk and riding a Lexus he could have got away with it

First time I've heard of a bicycle getting pulled. Probably the stupidest place in the city to try, there are always cops and army around there.

I cycle all the time and have been known to occasionally squeeze past a red light or two (when it's safe to do so) under the full gaze of the awaiting officers on the other side of the junction who paid me no attention whatsoever. I have also been seen riding the wrong way down a one-way street, on the wrong side of the road and even occasionally on the path (yes, paths do exist here) . And all without a helmet! Never an eyelid battered. My justification is that it's all part of trying to fit in and get with the local culture.

That being said, I did hear the other day that there was now some sort of crackdown on cyclists. I even heard that cycle helmets were going to become mandatory but I have no idea how true that is. I assumed at the time that the person who told me made it up in order to make me start wearing one. But looking at this story, maybe they were right?

Meanwhile, nationwide, card games and middle age women are getting dealt with, and today at Wat Botum playground, where the soft padded tiles protect the youngsters, we find used syringes and exposed needles in the play area.

Yep.. priorities are definitely in order.

It's so quiet out there they are desperate to write some tickets.

Walking without you face mask fully covering your mouth and nose will be next, despite many of the police not wearing one or having it under their chin.

At least they pulled over one of the rich cyclists and not a factory worker on her push bike

I was always under the impression that road rules in Cambodia were exclusive to motorized vehicles.

I've been riding my bike all over PP damn near every day for almost 10 years violating every rule the motorists have to follow, and which have been described above (riding on wrong side of road or wrong way on one way only streets, no helmet, riding straight through red lights without even slightly slowing down, no mask, no headlight, etc.)

I hope this doesn't become law. I really don't think it is the law now. But if the cops can convince you otherwise, well then, good luck.

So you really are a judge, or at least a lawyer.

And the reason is??? You seem quite proud of your death defying 10 years. You in a hurry or just a rebel without a cause? I hope your skill and/or luck continue.
