Chroy Changvar

Anyone living over there?

Are rents any cheaper than say, Toul Tompong or Pochentong?

Anyone have any idea of land prices?

Of course rents are cheaper... But what exactly are you looking for? An nice apartment in a new development? A small house? A shophouse? They have the whole price range there...

I am not really sure! Apartment or even rural style khmer house.

A view of the Mekong would be nice.

Up to 30 minutes out of PP would be OK.

Was even toying with the idea of Koh Dach, only need to go to PP for a bit of shopping sometimes.

I don't like living in the city, but I like the services there.

I felt exactly the same Mr. Bent.

I looked a Chroy C. a long while back, but they did indeed have a plethora of housing to suit all tastes and budgets.

I remember the only concern anyone ever cited being security. I don't see it as an issue, but so many here believe if you where to take a house out in the sticks, you would be more open to sticky fingers approaching, as you would be deemed in possession of Eldorado's gold.

I spoke of having dogs, to be told they would be poisoned. That is the actual reason I did not go, bloody soft really, but I couldn't handle my dogs being killed for any reason.

You should pop over there, I saw some great little places, very reasonable, and on the water. It used to be that you could traverse the bridge and turn immediately back on yourself to the left. This did take you along the water with many properties available. Fixer uppers were $100 a month to rent. No idea of land prices.

Let us know how the land lies, if you do take a peek. I haven't been over there for a few years now.

Still like the idea myself, now you have rekindled it.

I've toyed with the idea of renting some space there myself, but there just aren't any good jobs in the area.

The commute isn't bad Jacket. Most of a bad commute here happens once you are in the city itself.
The bridge looks like the last place you'd want to be at certain times of the day, but almost all access points to the 'Centre' look like this.
I take my kids to a water park near Takhmau, it's approx 5km beyond. The area is called Prek Ho, that is a very nice place. The drive can take between 30-45 depending on traffic, but it is lovely.

I think there are a couple of clever and quite rightly secretive foreigners out there. I am loathe to even mention it, but I doubt I will have the means to acquire a piece for myself anytime soon.

there is any amount of vendor finance for subdivisions that khmers can arrange with minimal downpayment on very reasonable terms.

What exactly were you looking for. The quality of serviced apartments and cost is certainly better in Chroy Changvar than Riverside. There is Mekong View Tower one and two and Mekong Gardens which are far cheaper than riverside and offer extra amenities such as pool, gym etc.

Eg Mekong Tower 1
All 116 apartments are finished to a very high standard. Each offer stunning views over the surrounding countryside: Some have views of the Mekong River, others the view over Phnom Penh City. The accommodation comes in 100 and 200 square metre configurations. Internally, each apartment is complete with Cable TV, International Direct Dialing telephone services and Internet Broadband/Wi-Fi. There are two accommodation types at Mekong View Tower, Standard and Premium. The main difference between the two is size; standard apartments are 100 square metres and Premium 200 square metres.

The amenities and services are specially designed to provide a perfect mix of privacy, comfort and peace of mind including Air conditioning, washing machine, refrigerator, Cable TV and DVD player, telephone and Internet Access, fully-equipped kitchen with cooking utensils, dining set and cutleries.

LONG TERM MONTHLY RENTAL FEE: US$550 - US$1400
