Chinese taking over Sihanoukville

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Chinese taking over Sihanoukville

Post by rozzieoz »

We live in a long-term apartment within a Khmer-owned hotel.
Today we were told we have three weeks to get out. The hotel has been sold to Chinese- they had at least 10 different groups come to have a look.

Sihanoukville is becoming gentrified now mate! In 17 months you are going to have to pay up. Although since it will cost you more then, you might as well pay up now and I will shout the first round of .75c beers :stir:
Gentrified with more Chinese financed Casino Resorts, and more to come.

The newish Bao Mai Resort Casino on Ochheateal is paying $50K per month (either rent or for the privilege to run a casino), so the $3 bbq places across the street, like Ecstatic Pizza and others along that strip have been given until December to relocate. Another $50K per month paying Chinese Casino to be built there.

Maybe in 5 years Snooky might resemble Monte Carlo or Las Vegas.

Wow, that's harsh Roz. Whereabouts are you living right now ? The worst thing is that they will make you get out NOW, but it might stay empty for months.
PM me if you have a problem finding a place to move to. But it's low season at least - be thankful that they didn't turf you out in December.

They told us about a month ago that they had some Chinese people looking, but it would be 2-3 months before anything happened, if anything happened at all.
Then suddenly yesterday we have until the 1st of next month.
