Charming Immigration Officers in Siem Reap

Post by Francis »

A friend from Australia arrived this morning in Siem Reap (by air). She was welcomed by the immigration officer with: "all Australians are stupid" :please: And NO, she gave him absolutely no reason to say that. She's one of the nicest persons I know and she would never cause any trouble.
Und der Haifisch der hat Tränen
Und die laufen vom Gesicht
Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht

In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst
Und so kommt es dass das Wasser
In den Meeren salzig ist

My friend is working in immigration department. Now he is based at Siem Reap air port. I will call him. However to say or call someone studip is not acceptable. Did she do anything to give that officer a lesson?

A lesson....no - she replied that she understands that he is stressed out because for some reason 5 planes have landed simultaneously. She's 45 years old and visits Siem Reap once a year for one to two month at a time in order to volunteer and spends every time thousands of Dollars for impoverished children.

I exited the country in August via Siem Reap, and my thoughts were that the Immigration Officers there were grumpy old cnuts that didn't really want to be there.
They didn't speak, they just made a grunting noise and a hand gesture to beckon the next in line.

Surely, as SR is the main entrance point for Cambodia's tourist industry they could be replaced by some nice, friendly, English speaking female officers in their late 20s that say something like, "Enjoy your flight", or "Welcome to Cambodia", as necessary.

Not very diplomatic of the immigration officer, but at least he was spot on with his remark ;)

This is really bad. We really should treat her well since she is helping Cambodia a lots. I wish I was one of the officer. If so, I would treat all the guests equally regardless their sex, age, race, gender and sexual orientation. However it is really hard to get a job in the government. A friend of mine who is based in Siem Reap whom I mentioned above spent almost 10k in order to get that job. :)

They ain't exactly the fun bunch at PNH either. I take it from their constant scowls that they're all pissed that they're not stationed at a land crossing where all the money is at.

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

I always engage them with my usual GC banter...
they all have so many medals pinned on their chest , I remark that they must be very good at their job because of the amount of medals....Which always gets a smile and often some chit-chat...really i think they are.....
I was born with nothing , and I still have most of it left.
