change sterling to dollars in the UK or when i arrive in Siem Reap?
Im moving to Cambodia soon to teach and just wondered if its best to change up £s to $s here in the UK or Cambodia? Also does the rent vary between PP SR & Snook - is PP more expesive as it is the capital. Im very excited!

Not to dampen your move. The rates are not at their best at the moment, pound to the dollar. It would obviously be in your best interest to get the best exchange rate. Look at some of the companies in the UK, they offer good rates on higher dominations. Yes you have to carry it with you and then open a bank account when you arrive in Cambodia.
I bought with me the limit you are allowed to bring in the country. I wish I had bought more. Now I have to settle for bank transfers.

PP is definitely more expensive for rent than elsewhere in Cambodia. As you say, it's the capital, there's a big demand. Wherever you are headed, go there first, get a hotel, and check out places for yourself before you rent. Not a good idea to pick a place from an internet site IMO. Nothing like seeing the real thing.
Is it your first time in Cambodia ? Enjoy

Is the teaching job going to give you enough money to live on? If you are thinking of bank transfers, do you have a bank in England and what are the transfer chargers?

Change it in Cambodia. You will get a much better rate at the money changers than in rip off UK banks!. Even the company's that are listed on sites such as moneysavingexpert could not match the rates. That said make sure all the notes you bring (some places may even refuse £50 notes) are not ripped or have writing on. They hate even small tears on $1 here. Open a bank acc in UCB or ABA which are fairly easy to do, better than under your mattress.

It's a bit like swings and roundabouts! I personally like to have a little bit of money in my pocket (currency of the country) on entry.Fourkinnel wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2017 11:09 am Change it in Cambodia. It was over two years ago last time I arrived here. Things do and have changed, sometimes for the better, and for the worse. The better the exchange rate you can get is obviously better for you! more money in your pocket.
At the time when I left old blighty I look at all the possibilities for money exchange, at the time Sainsburys where the easiest and better rates, even more with a Necter Card.
Money transfer - Bank in the UK I had looked on the internet and also visited them to ask questions. Halifax only costs £9 for money transfer to Cambodia, and that is any amount. I found them the lowest cost. I opened an ABA account in Cambodia, transferred monies from the Halifax with no troubles. 2 to 3 days from start to finish with minimum cost.
The poster is right about damaged notes! I had around £1000 with small writing marks. The banks here would not except them. I took them to a money exchange - he took them to the bank and had no such problems. But do you best to get clean pound notes before you leave the UK. It will save you heaps of hassle.
