And they'll make you fill out forms, wait for an hour in a queue, and expect you to feel grateful.

thats pretty decent tbh, Rational FX are 1.284AndyKK wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2017 12:02 pmIt's a bit like swings and roundabouts! I personally like to have a little bit of money in my pocket (currency of the country) on entry.Fourkinnel wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2017 11:09 am Change it in Cambodia. You will get a much better rate at the money changers than in rip off UK banks!. Even the company's that are listed on sites such as moneysavingexpert could not match the rates. That said make sure all the notes you bring (some places may even refuse £50 notes) are not ripped or have writing on. They hate even small tears on $1 here. Open a bank acc in UCB or ABA which are fairly easy to do, better than under your mattress.
It was over two years ago last time I arrived here. Things do and have changed, sometimes for the better, and for the worse. The better the exchange rate you can get is obviously better for you! more money in your pocket.
At the time when I left old blighty I look at all the possibilities for money exchange, at the time Sainsburys where the easiest and better rates, even more with a Necter Card.
Money transfer - Bank in the UK I had looked on the internet and also visited them to ask questions. Halifax only costs £9 for money transfer to Cambodia, and that is any amount. I found them the lowest cost. I opened an ABA account in Cambodia, transferred monies from the Halifax with no troubles. 2 to 3 days from start to finish with minimum cost.
The poster is right about damaged notes! I had around £1000 with small writing marks. The banks here would not except them. I took them to a money exchange - he took them to the bank and had no such problems. But do you best to get clean pound notes before you leave the UK. It will save you heaps of hassle.

Did you take that photo on the way out of Birmingham? If so, can I ask what route you opted for? Birmingham is a pretty shite considering it likes to tout itself as an "International" airport, it's no better than most other regional airports when it comes to going anywhere I have wanted to go. There's not really any such thing as a long-haul direct flight from BHX.Fourkinnel wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2017 4:50 pm This has got to be the worst rate ever. Birmingham Airport. Last month. East coast USA and Middle East is about as far as you can get so coming to Asia means into Europe or the Middle East then a connecting flight onwards. Did you go either of those routes? I've done that myself many times, regional airport and connecting flight, but my preference now is Heathrow and a direct flight into Asia.

Went to Dubai, 2 hours later on flight to BKK. Emirates. No issues apart from 30 mins late.Did you take that photo on the way out of Birmingham? If so, can I ask what route you opted for? Few weeks before, flew from there to Bucharest Romania. Blue Air. Total fuck up, 1 hour 45 mins late, boarding took longer than the 30 mins they announce the gate number, sweating my ass off, sitting on a plane with no AC on hottest day of year.

You can't get better than official rates. Currently £1 is 1.30 Dollars, you should be able to 'more or less' get that in UK Banks, Post office, or Thomas Cook. So i would always get Dollars in UK first.

^^depends on what amounts you exchange with some companies, the more you change the higher the rate.
I used to know a few places in Thailand that would give me a better rate than the UK.

I went down the same route - banks would impose service chargers, Post office was a low rate, some travel agents only carried a certain amount of dollars. If you were to be clever enough and had time, you could swap and change currencies and make small money.shnoukieBRO wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2017 3:15 pm You can't get better than official rates.
