Is CEO backdating threads to boost search engine ranking?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Wait, how did Richard post this in 1999? That's 15 years before CEO was launched? Google put '1999' in their SERPs snippet.
:stir:

It is kind of silly that you can get Google to display any date like that, but again, everyone can CLEARLY SEE that I changed the date of Richard's post. No way to change it and also hide it at the same time. If it were a tactic we used, it would be easy to prove, as it would be right there in plain sight.

You can see this yourself. Just do a Google search for the words below and you'll see it incorrectly time-stamped in Google's snippet:

Is Cambodia Expats Online backdating threads to boost search engine ranking?

:assasin:
"Life is too important to take seriously."

"Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh."

Seems a bit odd that there's a whole industry based around boosting Search Engine Rankings and yet, here we are, 4 pages long sniping from the trenches over something I bet some people pay money for.

He did explain why he believes that K440's guest post feature is deceptive. And I think he has a point there, as Alexandra's claim that hundreds of actually distinct persons have used it is ridiculous and when you look at what kind of posts "slip through" moderation. It's clearly abused as a tool for lazy sock puppetry and cheap shots by regulars in the first place.

Personally, I think the feature was a good idea and I said as much (there) at the time it was introduced, but the way the mods allow it to be abused is a travesty, especially when you consider that their removal of perfectly harmless posts by registered users got a bit out of hand lately, which goes in the opposite direction completely.
This. And I think that is the elephant in the room for them rather than this petty business about who posted first.

In my recent short stint over at 440 i did not cop any flak from "guests" myself, but i am simply not interested in swimming in a sea with bottom feeders and scavenging sharks like that lurking around -
Yes, it's much better here with all the wholesome posters, they would never let those scum in here and nobody here is allowed to post there either. 8)

That's a mighty impressive microphone you have General. Do you think Alexander has mic-envy?

I don’t think so.
Why would GM care about guest feature on the other forum and why would Alexandra care about what GM thinks about his guest feature. It seemed to start because GM got his knickers in a twist about the time of a nothing post, a feature that CEO has but K440 seems not to have. A feature which could be used for the nefarious reason he accused K440 of, but of course CEO technically could, but wouldn’t be so naughty.

And good grief a 12 minute defence video? It all seems so childish.

Good on the General for putting himself out there, in a video nonetheless. He didn't have to reveal his physical identity in such a blatant way.

Alexandra would certainly never do that. Not that it matters to the argument, but still.

That takes ballz especially with how 440 tries to rip him to shreds, calling him "fat" and whatnot. I'd like to see what those 440 trolls look like.

Man, more than a few members over there bang on like broken hearted ex girlfriends. They've got a hard-on for GM like I've never seen.

Though, whenever a forum spat erupts...it does increase forum participation over there by a factor of 10.

Pretty goddamned sad.

You really think that those ‘trolls’ over there aren’t also over here kissing the ring?
It’s a small community, I’m sure there is massive crossover.

OK:
CEO uses the back dating feature, so what??

k440 has its loyal 8 or so posters that say they dont visit ceo.
I call BS

The guest feature is total crap, only registered users using it to post stuff they dont want associated with their names
for A to claim they are all "Unique" guest is more BS< use hola, (or any vpn), switch countries/ip address.... new user...
