2 Canadian Tourists Beaten Up in JJ'S Bar, Sihanoukville

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Last time I was there, just before Xmas, the vibe got really freaky, everyone literally tripping, acting insane and violence perculating Me and my other moved outside and watched as a girl was passing out drunk. Her drunk friend, also female, came over to help but them tried making out with her, so dod some other backpackers.

I bailed and went back to happy pizza to have a beer and burn one.

Very strange place indeed.

Then I guess robbing or raping somebody is a "damn good reason to do so." Let's not pretend that our Khmer hosts are a bunch of angels. This country has a serious ice problem and a population of men with a very short fuse. Combine that with alcohol intoxication and cultural issues surrounding "loss of face" and you have a recipe for some seriously stupid violence.

Did I say " DON'T"? I said " Dont' make a habit of" which would suggest that it isn't a regular occurrence. And it isn't.You seem to have missed the emphasis on " WITHOUT GOOD REASON TO" And that was my main point. Don't quote out of context mate. And for every incident you want to pull up about Shihanoukville, I will pull up 10 from similar tourist based towns in Australia that will show it really is a lot safer here ,then say for example, The Gold Coast or Byron Bay ( and I'm sure with just a little resaerch I could do the same for tourist towns anywhere in the world). Sensationalising this is bullshit and if you don't realise that then you are either ignorant or just another fukn troll. Either way, you obviously have no fukn idea about Sihanoukville. Yes, its a tough town, most tourist towns are. Act like a fukwit, you will be in trouble, sometimes very bad trouble. Show respect, keep your shit together and you PROBABLY won't have any problems.

It's a meeting of locals and tourists consuming drugs/drink in a poor environment unable to control their behaviour. Not what I understand as tough or an idyllic beach location.
