2 Canadian Tourists Beaten Up in JJ'S Bar, Sihanoukville

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. It's a shame that we don't have Jamie the beach-detective on the gound for further info.

Is the article suggesting some sort of regular thing. Beating and robbing people in a bathroom. Previously a Brit, now 2 Canadians.

Could be a place to avoid.
I don't see why this place is worse than other beach bars ? It's quite central - not deserted or anything. In fact it's surrounded by other bars, and usually there are plenty of punters who would notice strange "goings-on" I would have thought.
But maybe, despite the new police chief, there is a downward slide in Sihanoukville. More and more desperate people going to the big towns.

But, were these guys robbed, or was it just a stupid bar fight ?

Sounds like it was Khmer:

No idea what sparked this altercation but JJ's is prime territory for predators of all sorts in search of easy targets. Lots of scumbags hanging around in the wee hours waiting for that lone barang who wanders off by themselves, so drunk that he or she can barely walk let alone defend themselves against a mugging or a rape. I'm surprised this particular incident involved a party of more than one. Maybe in this case it was an insult/loss of face type of situation that got things started...who knows.

Next question - why ?
Too late, too much drink, girl involved ?

I don't hang out there on the beach after all the "normal" people have gone to bed because the vibes are a bit weird to say the least.

2 backpackers beat up at a Sihanoukville beach bar? There's probably not much more to the story, I'm afraid.

Its a tough town. Make a fukwit of yourself and expect to get bitch slapped or worse. The locals DON'T make a habit of bashing random foreigners, without a damn good reason to do so.
