Re: Cambodians and Suicide
And maybe with those being the only available options, if a sickness is terminal anyway, the parent self accelerating the process is actually doing as much of the right thing as is available.giblet wrote:It's interesting, because so many young Cambodians seem to be willing to ruin their own lives to pay for their parents' medical care (this is often a reason that women go into sex work, at least according to the documentaries I've seen). So maybe while they are willing to make these sacrifices, they secretly wish their sick parent would just die so they wouldn't have to.
Quality vs Quantity.

I'm a native speaker of English so I can express myself more clearly than a Khmer but I often struggle on facebook because I cannot use paragraphs. If you hit enter your comments get posted. You cannot format your comments coherently.General Mackevili wrote:To be more accurate and in order to copy what she said, you would be quoted as saying, "Robin Williams killed himself because he was depressed and didn't want his family to have to deal with it. Respect to him."
Yes, if you said that, I would most definitely think that you were giving your "stamp of approval" for his reasoning.
I still don't understand the point of your thread. Surely you know this D------ better than I do?

" I'm a native speaker of English..."
I'm starting to have my doubts, LoL...
Out of curiosity, what do YOU think she meant by her post? To me, it's pretty obvious she is saying she respects/agrees with the ladies reasoning for killing herself.

Eh? Here, let me help you with Facebook...ali baba wrote:... I often struggle on facebook because I cannot use paragraphs. If you hit enter your comments get posted. You cannot format your comments coherently...
You CAN use paragraphs.
All you need to do is hold the "shift" key down when you press "enter" to start a new paragraph to avoid it getting instantly posted instead.

LoL, well, I can teach you how to effectively use "spoilers" too. It will be the last freebie though.ali baba wrote: Sorry if I cannot juggle reading pictures in spoilers that you have scribbled on.

Maybe I'll invite her to come post what she meant on here in Khmer script, then we can get to the root of her meaning of "respect" on the subject.

She's your friend why don't you talk to her yourself?
I don't want to be in your love triangle.

Re: Cambodians and Suicide
Reading that FB post (may the grandma RIP), it didn't come off as condoning the suicide act but rather a way for her to acknowledge the sacrifice and honor the grandmother's memory.
