Where do you work if you don't mind me asking? LKUCT or Zaman? If the policy is clear and supported by owners/ admin why do they need more meetings? Seems kind of contradictory, no? If we had a dollar for every time admin had told a teacher to be strict and then taken the student's side when it came down to the wire, we'd all be millionaires.

I work for AUPP. It's more of a freshman learning curve, I don't mean meetings with staff I mean with students. We make sure they meet with a guidance counselor if they are caught cheating. That doesn't always get the message across, but the 0 on their assignment usually does.

I don't expect anything. I commented on the statements made by the new minister. I queried if it was really still the case that they pay 1000 each or if it had in fact stopped as the minister was hoping to achieve. I didn't word it so plainly. It required some inference.
A few days ago I overheard a girl living close to my place and learning in a state school telling her mother all kids have to pay the teacher 800r per day so he will make 7,50 per day extra. So the answer is yes, corruption in education is still endemic.

Many of the elite enter university with the notion that do not have to work very hard to get a degree and are hit with a harsh reality. We have a very strongly enforced no tolerance policy in that regard and many of the freshman struggle with this initially. I do not even know how many times I have had to attend a meeting about dealing with plagiarism or an essay submitted purely from a Google translate.

Yet, the students here are wonderful once they get over that initial difficulty they shine. Their English is much better than many of their peers from other Asian countries. Hopefully Cambodia can help those in need in the more rural areas, overall more education would greatly benefit the country.
good for cambodia.

I also find cambo english is less grating than their neighbours.singapore followed by the Philippines english is the worse.

I'm impressed by the level of English as spoken by young Cambodians. For example, I took my motorcycle in for repairs recently. I got chatting to the teenage mechanic, and I just had to ask "Oxford or Cambridge?" "Battambong Elementary actually" and as he replied his head rotated until his chin pointed to a pretty young woman across the street, "I'd give her a jolly good rogering- a what old bean", he exclaimed with a derisive sneer, and then peeled off a few bars of supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Bravo!

Anyone asking this question, ask if the money is for public school, or extra classes. In many cases public school is free, and the students pay for extra classes. Of course the teachers perpetuate the need for extra classes by not teaching everything they need to know in public school.

There can also be variation in what happens from province to province, and village to village.
