Plenty of young Khmer guys who go after female tourists in SR, Shk/Otres and on the islands. Female backpackers are usually down for whatever, they leave all their inhibitions at home.
Really? I don't question your words but I did not see that in these places. I saw khmer girls/women hunting white males but I never saw that with the khmer guys. Only saw tuktuk drivers trying to grab customers with charming words.
i lived in SHV for 5 years and knew numerous khmer guys who worked on the beach dated some of the white girls, one is actually living in england now with his missus and their kid

It was awkward.
We men cannot afford to be sensitive to what girls say. Score whatever it takes or stay home.
Pardon?
If it needs to be explained then it needn’t be explained. Suffice it to say this kind of situations are not uncommon.

No seriously - what are you on about?

I'm confused too. Is it just me, or is this an okay to say that if someone says "NO", then it's okay to be 'insensitive' to what a girl might say? "Score whatever it takes..." reads like "Get me some of mine and to hell with what the other wanted".

If I have understood this wrong, then perhaps @rozzieoz is not the only one who has completely misunderstood you. So perhaps it does need explaining, because I am at a complete loss...

Lol I did some Google-Fu for you guys. Here is a response from someone named KKling from this January.

"In my experience here, the dating scene is much different for men than it is for women. I might get a lot of flak for saying this, but it is what my friends and I have experienced. My Cambodian American friend gets a lot of attention from old white guys who come here to satisfy their Asian fetish. I exclusively get approached by Indians and Africans. I really don't care what race I date, but the racial factors behind dating here fascinate me. The other complicating factors are alcohol and sex. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against either one. I did shots with friends for my birthday, so...but a lot of people who are in the business sector here drink to the point of substance abuse, and those same expats(teachers as well) accumulate quite the body count sexually. They've slept with hundreds of women. Kind of makes me want to give everyone STD tests.

When it comes to Khmer men with expat women.....some of them don't find us attractive, but others just don't know how to approach us. When they do,it's awkward and can come across as creepy because they stare, follow you, or one guy licked his chops at me. They'll ask to marry you within an hour of meeting you, or they'll proposition you for sex and jump to a marriage proposal as soon as you tell them you aren't into casual sex. Dating as a woman is difficult here."

Lol and this is my favorite thing she said "On a funny note, there are some incredibly sexy dating profiles with pictures of feet, foreheads, and what can only be described as Satan's fat grandfather. And they all "have cats"."

"Dating Locals
Meghan: Expats date openly. There is no kissing in public for anyone of any faith. Dating is very common. Dating between local Emirati men and expat women is very rare, but I have seen this before. Look out for men who are only looking for a holiday fling or married.

Caitlin: I only know 2 women that are dating locals. Cambodian men are extremely attractive but most don’t know English, are poor and misogynist. Of all South East Asia, Cambodia has one of the most misogynist societies.
I think that it would be extremely challenging dating a local due to the huge discrepancies in economic welfare as well as societal differences, but it is definitely possible if your heart is set on it.

I have been told that a lot of local men watch white women porn and they think that all white women are like those in pornos. I have one experience that leads me to believe that this is true. One evening I went out with my girlfriends for happy hour and we were playing pool.

We ended up playing against two Cambodian men, Cambodians are sharks on the pool table, and we lost.

One of the men came up to all of us after and tried to have us blow up this balloon in front of him. To me, that sounds like some weird thing that he saw in porno. We told him no and he said, “But the losers have to do what the winners say.” We all said no again and walked away without another word.

I am not advising against dating locals, but I am not advising to date locals either.
I am not advising against dating locals, but I am not advising to date locals either.

Tina: Most local guys over 20 will be married but that doesn’t seem to be a problem here. Even if you say you have a partner they might still ask if you’re interested in a Cambodian boyfriend.

I haven’t tried to date here. From what I’ve picked up the social standard is that girls come into marriage as virgins and social pressure is high to marry and have kids, but the reality looks a lot more flexible than that to me. Heterosexual couples usually don’t show much public affection while same-sex “couples” can often be seen holding hands (men, too) but that doesn’t mean they’re gay.

Men
Caitlin: There are types of local men, which was discussed in the question above.

Tina: There are the ones that are brave enough to talk to you, the ones who just give you a shy smile and the TukTuk drivers who might cat-call you with “beautiful” (Srey Sa’aat) and “I love you.”
No matter what, it’s all very polite and no is accepted as an answer.

Usually they keep talking for a bit (sometimes I get a feeling they just like to practice English) and almost always wish you well at the end of the conversation; I haven’t had any troubles."

Older article and written by a man to boot

Cambodian Men

Many foreign women consider Khmer men to be the most attractive in Southeast Asia. In general, their features are more masculine than say, Thai or Laotian men, and they can be quite charming. Unlike most of the rest of Asia, it is probably almost as common to see a foreign woman with a Cambodian man as it is to see a foreign man with a Cambodian woman. Men are supposed to foot the bill in Cambodia but this might not always be realistic given the economic differences.

Machista attitudes are quite common in Cambodia, so women should make an effort to dress conservatively if they don’t want a lot of attention from the omnipresent motodops and tuk-tuk drivers. Women should wear long pants and shirts that cover their shoulders. Cambodians women don’t even wear bikinis on the beach, preferring to swim in shorts and tee-shirts or even long pants. Topless sunbathing or skinny dipping is therefore obviously not acceptable, unless you’re really drunk or partying with the author…

try dusting off the old flick SUMMERTIME with Katherine Hepburn romancing an Italian from 65 years ago. a great David Lean movie from 1955.
To think women are any different from men while on vacation ...is just plain naive....
I have seen women on vacation enjoying themselves all over the World ....
for decades...
Here in Siem Reap I have a friend who has to beat tourists off with a stick...he speaks perfect English..has a bad boy look and works late around Pub street...he can have his pick...
Some of you need to google gigilo or stream Rob Schneider flicks.

There was a tuk tuk driver on the lakeside in the mid 2000s who was living with an Australian woman for at least a few years. Maybe they are still together, it seemed to be working.

It is certainly not against the strict code of conduct of the United Tuk Tuk Drivers of Cambodia Giuld, but of course we are always perfect gentlemen anyway.
Did he used to work at Rorys Guesthouse?? His went by the name cowboy ( wore a cowboy hat) or mr. thai ?

if was him, he was a nice/charming dude..i can see that. It thru me off when he spoke because he had a strong Australian ( i thought) accent...
