Cambodian citizenship

Hello!

If a person has for seven years a yearly business visa for Cambodia:
- do these years qualify for citizenship?
- is a person required to spend 7 years, physically, in Cambodia? Or is time spent outside the Country considered as well?

I am aware there is a language proficiency requirement as well. Cambodia has the perfect visa system from what I see, however it can be taken away at any time by changing a law. Citizenship always looks better for the middle term.

I read one can donate to the State and get citizenship without residency nor language requirements, however the price varies from 50k to 300k and unfortunately that's not an option.

It used to be easy in the past doing it under the table. But most are hesitant if you are white looking. Doing the legal route is time consuming and doesnt always guarantee and more likely you'll have to pay here and there each step of the way.

I'd say acquaint with a village chief/mayor or someone with equivalent authority and quietly inquire him about it.

Passing the bribe is actually part of the cultural assimilation test, if you fail to pay the bribe or question the bribe on any kind of moral grounds you instantly fail the test.

I am not a lawyer (never even played one on TV) and I don't know where you come from, but wonder why you would want Cambodian citizenship. In some cases for U.S. citizens, if they voluntarily become citizens of another country, can loose their U.S. citizenship. I would carefully check out the laws of your home country first, because do you know how hard it is to travel abroad on only a Cambodian passport? In 2018 there will be elections here (maybe). The party in power will likely (maybe) loose, and just as likely (maybe) won't leave. In situations like that things can get difficult fast and the best thing an expat can have is their passport to board a plane.

I am not really interested in a new passport, I already have 2

and neither Countries will take back my citizenship if I add a new one. As a citizen, one knows he is very likely to be able to stay in a Country. One day, Cambodia can just decide to remove the business visa program, or make it harder to apply, and people who are citizens will be affected.

I don't know how likely this is to happen, but just in case...

A Khmer national ID card is suffice for equally getting the same right as the locals.

How does one get this? What rights does it give you that you don't have with a business visa and work permit? What did you mean, the same rights as locals, you mean land ownership property rights also or you no longer need a visa? Never heard of this before.

As good as citizenship. Yes it gives you the same privilege as the local. To get one? Through the route the OP inquired about or under the table.
