Cambodia
Re: Cambodia Vs USA
It depends on what part of the USA you are talking about---and what your lifestyle needs and desires are---
I lived and worked in LA and Palm Desert--shitcago and Phoenix--and Baltimore and near D.C.
I have spent a lot of time in Colorado around Denver and in the high country---
I grew up in KC and have spent time in almost every state---
I loved Alaska in the summertime--
So, It is a very complicated matter -A lot depends on your political and religious views---
I have lived in Mexico, Jamaica, Argentina and I am hoping to add Cambodia to the list---I will be there on my recon mission in early August---or sooner-
I am headed back to Thailand in July----then on to Cambodia----There are many aspects of Thailand I really like---and some that have pushed me to look to Cambodia for a better fit for 'me'.
I may find out I am better off back here behind my gate listening to coyotes and owls---
Perhaps, 9 months in Cambodia and 3 months back here will be the right combination?
I am going to find out for myself--

Total agreement as to it being one of the most beautiful places in USA.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Fri May 26, 2017 10:41 am " California is the place u ought to be, so they loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly, (Hills that is, swimming pools, movie stars)...." LOL

Re: Cambodia Vs USA
easy to get a place for less. MY daughter has a great 2 bedroom apt in Rohnert park ( 20 miles north of sf next to Sonoma state school) for $1,500/month
1973 i had a 1 bedroom apt on the corner of Washington and Taylor street in Nob hill, great bay views $165/month
went back in 1999 and they had one for $1,500,
no idea what it would be now

Re: Cambodia Vs USA
Cambodia without a doubt. Invest that money and by the time I have kids I won't have to worry about education costs. The US doesn't have any allure or benefits if you're making that kind of money.

Unless you are deeply invested in degrees for the sake of credentialism, you never need to worry about education cost. Online universities like coursera.org are essentially for free. MIT open courseware is also top class. The transmission of information being pretty much free of charge, I wonder why anybody would still pay for university? In fact, it is primary school that is the most expensive track in education, because at that age, children are not capable of alphabetizing themselves from just a computer screen.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2017 7:58 am... the time I have kids I won't have to worry about education costs ...
Nowadays, kids have trouble starting their professional lives as adults because they did not develop any vocational skills at all. The schools are simply not capable of teaching them anything -- at all -- that would give them a starting point or would bring at least some bread to the table. Therefore, I really do not count on formal education to achieve that. I will just teach my kids how to do some programming work, and if they like it, they will make more money by the age 16 than most of their school mates throughout their entire lives. Not just in Cambodia. Even in the US, graduates seem to be serving coffee at Starbucks nowadays, while paying off astronomical student loans; in the best case, for decades. All of that is not made of the cloth of millionaires either.
In fact, the most difficult task is to prevent your kids from adopting the loser views of their peers. Their peers have got it completely wrong, and are walking straight off the cliff. It is much easier to decisively arrest the bad influence of their peers in Cambodia, than in the US. So, Cambodia wins on all counts!
Very true. But then again $5000/month is not that much either. Certainly not in places like San Francisco. Most of it will disappear in housing cost. On the other hand, I can't spend $5000/month in Cambodia, not even by incessantly and forcibly throwing money out of the window.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2017 7:58 amThe US doesn't have any allure or benefits if you're making that kind of money.
